The Amar Ekushey Book Fair begins today, marking the shortest edition in its history. Organisers, however, say it is not the length but the breadth of ideas that will define this year’s fair, themed “Multidimensional Bangladesh”.

A large number of prominent mainstream publishers have decided to abstain from participating in Amar Ekushey Book Fair -- the country’s largest book fair -- fearing economic losses due to the post-election situation and the overlap with the upcoming month of Ramadan.

The Bangla Academy has postponed the Ekushey Book Fair, which was scheduled to be held this December.

The fifth volume of legendary lyricist Gazi Mazharul Anwar’s songbook series, “Olpo Kothar Golpo Gaan”, was officially released on February 24 at the Ekushey Book Fair. Published by Bhashachitra, the event took place at their Pavilion 17 at 4pm. This new edition includes the stories behind 50 songs, along with the lyrics of 200 songs.

Renowned singer Fahmida Nabi, known for her illustrious musical career, has stepped into a new role at this year’s Ekushey Book Fair. The National Film Award-winning artiste, born into a celebrated musical family, has embraced a fresh identity as a writer, with her book “Fahmida Nabir Diary”. Her debut book is now available at the Shabdoshilpo stall at the fair, a milestone she finds both exciting and fulfilling.
