Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed said he has received assurance regarding the security of the Bangladesh team for the upcoming India tour from BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

India has appointed former South Africa Test fast bowler Morne Morkel as its bowling coach, the country's cricket board said Wednesday.

The Mumbai-born cricketer played 40 Tests and 15 ODIs for India between 1975 and 1987, before becoming a selector, and later, the coach of the national team. Gaekwad was the coach of the Indian team that finished runners-up at the 2000 ICC Champions Trophy.

"It is with immense pleasure that I welcome Mr Gautam Gambhir as the new Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team," Jay Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement.

India's World Cup-winning cricket team will share prize money of nearly $15 million, the national cricket board said Sunday, as a reward for their "talent, determination, and sportsmanship".

At a press conference ahead of India's first game against Ireland in New York, Dravid stated he will not reapply for the role, with the BCCI advertising the role from last month.

"How can I help India win the World Cup - I think it's not me that will help India win the World Cup, it is 140 crore Indians that will help India win the World Cup," Gambhir said.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited applications for the next India head coach as Rahul Dravid's tenure will end after the 2024 T20 World Cup. 

Shah also informed that India would not adopt a split-coaching model.

With Rishabh Pant and Kuldeep Yadav certainties after their performances so far in the IPL, two places remained up for grabs. Sanju Samson and Yuzvendra Chahal have seized their opportunities and earned recalls with impressive displays in the ongoing tournament.

The IPL, which began on March 22 in Chennai, will end five days ahead of the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and United States, starting June 1.

“Kishan and Iyer are likely to be excluded from that list, as both haven't been playing domestic cricket despite the BCCI's diktat to do so,” Times of India quoted a source

“Some players have begun prioritising the IPL over domestic cricket, a shift that was not anticipated,” ESPNCricinfo quoted Jay Shah from the letter.

The statement added: "The BCCI requests the media and fans to respect Virat Kohli's privacy during this time and refrain from speculating on the nature of his personal reasons."

Rahul Dravid will stay on as India head coach following an extension of his contract, which had expired with the 50-overs home World Cup earlier this month, the country's cricket board said on Wednesday.

India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first after reports emerged hours before the first semfiinal that the local authities switched the pitch from the one originally prescribed by the ICC.

Rohit Sharma has led India from the front in their three unbeaten matches of the World Cup to boost his cricket-mad nation's hopes of winning the title at home.

When Mushfiqur Rahim hit the winning boundary to upset India in the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbeans, people had already gotten a glimpse of the talents who would lead Bangladesh cricket in the coming years.
