A special programme will be held at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy today (December 31) to mark the birth anniversary of renowned Lalon singer Farida Parveen.

The programme sought to highlight the values of peace, harmony and humanity associated with Christmas through a range of musical performances, including carol songs and kirtan.

The theatre festival will continue until December 26. Plays will be staged every evening at the main auditorium of the National Theatre Hall of Shilpakala Academy.

Cultural affairs adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest. Renowned artists Professor Dr Abdus Sattar and Professor Mostafizul Haque attended the event as guests of honour, while Mr Sheikh Rezauddin Ahmed, director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, presided over the ceremony.

The ‘24th Young Artist Fine Arts Exhibition 2025’ opens today at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, featuring 215 artworks by 191 emerging artists from across the country.

“The Catcher in the Rye”, a two-day exhibition held on December 5–6 at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, showcasing the artworks of children born and raised in the country’s red-light areas.

The festival, running from December 1 to 31, will feature daily performances at 6:30 pm at the Experimental Theatre Hall. Jatra troupes from various parts of Bangladesh have registered to participate in the event.

On November 27, The Islamic University of Technology Photographic Society (IUTPS) inaugurated “Break The Circle: Season XII” at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s Art Gallery 6, unveiling one of its most ambitious international showcases to date. The festival, held under the slogan “Selim Al Deen—Rabindranath lives in our art, the triumph of Bangla theatre is eternal”, begins today, at Jahangirnagar University and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, and will conclude tomorrow.

Theatre ULAB, in collaboration with Bodhi Natya, is bringing Bertolt Brecht’s “Señora Carrar's Rifles” to the Experimental Theatre Hall at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Presented in Sukhamay Bose’s Bengali translation, the production is conceptualised and directed by Sarwar Jahan Upol, with production supervision by Munatasir Mamun of Theatre ULAB.

Dhaka-based theatre troupe Swapnadal will commemorate Hiroshima Day 2025 with a special performance of their acclaimed production “Tringsha Shatabdee” (The Thirtieth Century) on Wednesday (August 6), at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s Studio Theatre Hall. This marks the 127th staging of the production, which powerfully explores the horrors of war and nuclear destruction through experimental theatre.

The rally will begin at 3pm from the Shilpakala Academy and parade through Moghbazar, Hatirjheel, and Madhubagh, before looping back to its starting point. Each rickshaw will be colourfully decked with custom T-shirts, caps, flag bands, placards, and original graffiti art—transforming the streets of Dhaka into a moving exhibition of protest and pride.

The “July Reawakening Theatre Festival” is currently underway at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, featuring 11 new productions by 11 theatre troupes. Organised to reflect on the spirit of the July movement, the festival opened on July 31 at the National Theatre Hall and will continue till August 8.
