At sixty, Tauquir Ahmed stands at a point where a life in the arts begins to take on its full shape. Today (April 19), at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, colleagues gathered to take stock of a career that has moved steadily across theatre, television, and film.

A commemorative event honouring National Film Award-winning actor Shams Sumon turned into an emotional gathering as colleagues came together to remember the late artiste on Thursday (April 9) evening at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital.

The 44th Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan will be held on April 10 and 11 at the National Theatre Hall of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Organised by Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammilan Parishad. The organisers announced at a press briefing in Dhaka.

To mark Eid-ul-Fitr, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has taken an initiative to organise a special cultural programme titled “Chand Raat Eid Anondo Utshob”. The event will be held today (March 20) at 6:30pm at the academy’s open-air Nandan Mancha in Segunbagicha.

The finale opens today (Wednesday), January 21, at 6:30 pm at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Shilpakala Academy. Urmi Opera from Mohammadpur, Magura, will stage “Premer Shomadhi Tire”. The play is written by Nirmal Mukhopadhyay and directed by Shamim Khandakar.

A special programme will be held at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy today (December 31) to mark the birth anniversary of renowned Lalon singer Farida Parveen.

The programme sought to highlight the values of peace, harmony and humanity associated with Christmas through a range of musical performances, including carol songs and kirtan.

The theatre festival will continue until December 26. Plays will be staged every evening at the main auditorium of the National Theatre Hall of Shilpakala Academy.

Renowned artists Professor Dr Abdus Sattar and Professor Mostafizul Haque attended the event as guests of honour, while Mr Sheikh Rezauddin Ahmed, director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, presided over the ceremony.

The ‘24th Young Artist Fine Arts Exhibition 2025’ opens today at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, featuring 215 artworks by 191 emerging artists from across the country.

“The Catcher in the Rye”, a two-day exhibition held on December 5–6 at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, showcasing the artworks of children born and raised in the country’s red-light areas.

The festival, running from December 1 to 31, will feature daily performances at 6:30 pm at the Experimental Theatre Hall. Jatra troupes from various parts of Bangladesh have registered to participate in the event.

On November 27, The Islamic University of Technology Photographic Society (IUTPS) inaugurated “Break The Circle: Season XII” at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s Art Gallery 6, unveiling one of its most ambitious international showcases to date.
