The fracas in the media over Tamim Iqbal’s recent comments and those of the Bangladesh Cricket Board has exposed a pretty dismal picture of the national team environment ahead of the West Indies tour. As the team leaves for the Caribbean for the month-long tour starting with the first Test in Antigua on June 16, it is not the longest format or the players of the format that are hogging the limelight, instead it is ODI captain Tamim Iqbal’s T20I future that is the talk of the town.

The Daily Star (DS): Another away tour is approaching. How’s your preparation for the West Indies series?

Usually, when a new Test captain is appointed, the first focus is on the direction he wants to take the team. But Bangladesh’s newly instated captain is yet to speak about his plans for the team or the brand of cricket he wants to see it play.

The AGM’s main agenda will to approve the constitutional changes required to enact the Regional Cricket Association (RCAs). The AGM was initially scheduled to take place on July 26th but the date was changed as it clashed with ICC’s AGM on the same date.

The lack of a vice-captain in teams named by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had led many to question whether there is a plan in place to shape the future leadership. Finally, the board appointed wicketkeeper-batter Liton Das as deputy to Test captain Shakib Al Hasan ahead of the West Indies tour.
