TRENDING THIS WEEK
Violence against Santals
In recent weeks, we have seen an upsurge of violence against Santals, a minority group of Bangladesh, as they were forced to leave their land. The violence consisted of the burning of their houses, looting of possessions, and killings. Before this was brought forth to the mainstream media, the social media was where these incidents were brought to attention. While there is a large number of people protesting such terrorism, there are still those who are in support of this gross show of violence. The number of sufferers and victims are increasing everyday, while attention and actual help from the Government is still to be witnessed. A video by a young boy on social media spread like wildfire when he called on the society to turn towards the Santals, and let go of everything else that is distracting us from such horrors that the minorities are facing.
Supermoon Sighting
On the 15th of this month, the moon was the closest it has ever been in 68 years. This supermoon was sighted excitedly by the whole world as social media erupted with photos of the beauty. As the announcements of the moon came in, the world prepared themselves, counting days to the big finale of the brightest moon we have seen in so long. Finally, when the moon was full and at it's brightest peak, photos filled up newsfeeds on Facebook and twitter.
Trump's America
The whole world went into shock, whether positively or negatively, when Donald Trump was elected the president of the United States on November 8, 2016. Social Media exploded with expert and non-expert opinions on the future of America, the world, the economy, so on and so forth. The Bangladeshi government welcomed the news of Trump as president. But the shock of Hillary Clinton not being elected, even after everything and everyone went in her favour, is still being rippled across the globe. What can we look forward to with Trump as president? Even though a lot of violence has already erupted across the states, how worldly affairs change is yet to be seen.
