"I even thought of becoming a neurologist when my brother was studying medicine, at one point." Md Wasek Sazzad planned on becoming many things throughout his youth. But one thing that was constant in every dream was to be the best he can be.

An Editor at the United Nations Editorial Team on Youth (UNETY), Bangladesh Wasek began his schooling in Government Jubilee High School, in Sylhet. "I then went to Birshreshtha Noor Mohammad Rifles Public School & College, after which I joined University of Dhaka," he says. Always a good student, Wasek leapt at it as soon as he saw that studying Population Sciences was an option at University of Dhaka (DU), even though the subject was brand new. "Population Sciences is very interesting. A lot of people study Human Resources but the science and demographic behind it is untouched. This is where I have an advantage!"

Since joining university, Wasek has aspired to become a part of the United Nations (UN). "I always felt that if I become a part of the UN, I can do the best for my country through the means of an amazing organisation who are trying to change the world for the greater good," he says.

With six months in university still left, in three and half years, Wasek has already worked with 13 organisations. "During my first year in DU, I joined Dhaka University Model United Nations Association (DUMUNA) and became an executive member." In 2013, Wasek started working for United Nations Youth & Students of Bangladesh (UNYSAB) authorised by United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Dhaka, where he worked on various UN projects. Wasek was also selected as a standout graduate of Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center (BYLC) and worked as a Leadership Development Facilitator for them. He is the Head of Public Relations in Dhaka University Career Club (DUCC), besides working as a programme correspondent for a private news television channel. Alongside working in several organisations, Wasek also coordinated research projects and programmes of UNFPA, UNDP, UNIC, Yunus Center etc. He has received an award at the 1st Quality Convention organised by LGED, Bangladesh; and has also won many awards in gaming and debating competitions. In 2014, 5 individuals were selected from 1,000 to work at the UNETY, Bangladesh and Wasek was selected as one of them.

"I believe UN is the best organisation out there if one really wants to make an impact and under of UN, I want to continue the journey of doing something fruitful for my country." shares Wasek.

A simple boy, from a simple family and a simple past started his journey to change the world. Today he stands with a world of experience already and still ready to learn and do more. "I had come from the bottom of the basket. I didn't know I would be able to come this far when I just started dreaming. Looking at where I am now, I feel proud and honored. I want others to know that it does not matter who you are or where you are from. As long as you dream big, you will be able to achieve big!"
