MOSAIC INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME 2015
“Can you train somebody to be a leader?”
7 delegates from Bangladesh embarked on the Jordan bound journey to attend the Mosaic International Leadership Programme (ILP) 2015, with this question on their minds.
Mosaic International Leadership Programme (ILP) is a leadership development opportunity which aims to hone leadership skills to these young leaders to become involved in their local communities. The Programme brings together 80 international leaders from various backgrounds aged between 25-35 to engage in a two-week residential training conference, featuring a list of world-renowned leadership trainers and speakers. The ILP 2015 was hosted in Amman, Jordan from May 18th -29th, managed by Mosaic Network-a charitable initiative founded by Charles, Prince of Wales, in 2007. His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan was the Royal Patron of Mosaic's 2015 ILP, which this year was delivered in partnership with the King Abdullah II Fund for Development. The ILP 2015 is the fifth episode and already boasts of an alumni of 400 young leaders across the world.
The ILP was inaugurated by HRH Prince El Hassan bin Talal, who stated that "sustainability does not come with capital investment but from humanity." The following two weeks were a whirlwind affair of skill workshops, inspirational sessions on global issues and visits to projects in the local area which demonstrate leadership in action. The leadership training was provided by Professor Binna Kandola OBE and Stuart Duff, business psychologists by profession, who helped us explore and develop our own leadership model and guided us to strategies of implementing them. Over the 2 week summit, our individual ideas and plans of making a change slowly took shape as we started consolidating the information received. Reflection sessions were especially organised where all 80 of us were segregated into 8 groups of 10 people, led by a group leader from the past alumni. This year, Korvi Rakshand and Reema Islam were there as past alumni members, and group leaders, from Bangladesh.
The list of speakers were: CEO of INJAZ Deema Bibi, CEO of Zain Jordan Ahmed Henandeh, Environmental campaigner and adviser to HRH The Prince of Wales Tony Juniper, Secretary General Duke of Edinburgh Awards John May, the BBC's Head of Religion Aaqil Ahmed, The global environmental campaigner Rob Swan, Jordanian mountaineer Mostafa Salameh, Director of the El Hassan Youth Awards Samar Kildani and Dr Majeda Omar Director of the Royal Institute of Interfaith Studies and public speaking guru Carole Spiers.
Following the summit, each participant is matched with a Mosaic mentor, internationally recognised leaders in their field of work, who closely mentor and coach delegates for 12 months to develop an “Action Plan” to achieve their goals and implement the change in their respective communities/countries.
The Bangladesh delegates this year were: Sharlin Hossain, Esha Farooqe, Imran Newaz Khurshid, Afsana Bhuiyan, Ashita Chowdhury, Saif Kamal, Ekramul Islam.
