BFF wants Hamza to play first home match at National Stadium
The Competitions Committee of Bangladesh Football Federation wants Sheffield United midfielder Hamza Choudhury to play his first home match for Bangladesh at the National Stadium in Dhaka.
Bangladesh are scheduled to face Singapore at home in the Asian Cup Qualifiers on June 10 after playing their first match against hosts India in Shillong on March 25.
"We want Hamza Choudhury to play his first international match for Bangladesh at the National Stadium on June 10 against Singapore. We asked the BFF secretariat to communicate with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Council to hand over the National Stadium, which is being renovated. If needed, we will take care of the ground, so that we can host the match against Singapore," Iqbal Hossain, member of the Competitions Committee, told The Daily Star after the meeting chaired by executive member Golam Gaus at the BFF House on Wednesday.
Hamza is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on March 17 before joining the team the following day. Hamza, who is all set to make his debut for Bangladesh playing against India, will visit Sylhet on March 17 along with BFF members including Iqbal, Gaus, Shakhawat Hossain Bhuiyan and Kamrul Hasan Hilton
Iqbal also informed that they have decided to organise the SAFF U-20 Women's Championship at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong. They want the stadium renovated as per AFC and FIFA criteria and host international tournaments in future. The committee also decided to have a meeting after Eid-ul-Firt to arrange Sher-e-Bangla National Football Championship with participation of all district teams.
