Bangladesh end SAFF Futsal Championship with defeat to Nepal

By Star Sports Report

Bangladesh concluded their SAFF Futsal Championship campaign with a 4–1 defeat to Nepal in their final match at the Nonthaburi Hall in Bangkok on Saturday.

Already out of the title race, Bangladesh failed to finish the tournament on a positive note as Nepal dominated large periods of the contest. The defeat left Bangladesh with seven points from two wins and one draw, placing them fourth in the standings, though their final position could drop once all matches are completed.

Bangladesh struggled to impose themselves from the outset, allowing Nepal to take control. Lapka Tamang gave Nepal the lead with a powerful angled strike to end the first half ahead.

Nepal doubled their advantage in the ninth minute of the second half through a composed finish from Saroj Tamang. With seven minutes remaining, Rahbar Wahed Khan briefly revived Bangladesh’s hopes by capitalising on a goalkeeping error. However, Nepal struck twice more to seal a comprehensive victory before the final whistle.

Meanwhile, Maldives were crowned champions with a game in hand after inflicting a 3-1 defeat on Bhutan. The islanders won all five of their matches in the tournament so far.
