Will Dhaka league crisis be resolved today?
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will host a tea party today at the Westin Dhaka in an effort to resolve the ongoing crisis surrounding the commencement of the Dhaka leagues.
All 76 Dhaka-based clubs have been invited, but the participation of 45 of them remains uncertain as they are questioning the legitimacy of the current board, irregularities in the recent board elections, and have other grievances.
A Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) official on Friday said they are still hopeful that the dissenting clubs will join the discussion, which will be attended by BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul, CCDM chairman Adnan Ahmed Dipon, and several other board directors and officials.
"We are relentlessly continuing our efforts. We hope all the clubs will join the meeting," the official told The Daily Star, adding that formal invitations had been delivered to every Dhaka club.
The official also confirmed that several members of the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) will be present. Earlier, CWAB president Mohammad Mithun expressed optimism about a positive outcome, saying he believes the dialogue between BCB and the clubs will help bring Dhaka club cricket back onto the field.
The CCDM has already postponed the start of the upcoming Dhaka First Division Cricket League twice due to the prolonged standoff. Initially scheduled for November 18, following the players' transfer window on November 5-6, the league faced immediate uncertainty when only 12 of the 20 participating clubs took part in the transfer.
A revised start date of November 25 also failed to materialise as the clubs maintained their previous stance, leaving the competition in limbo.
