NZ batsman Allen tests positive for Covid-19 in Dhaka
New Zealand batsman Finn Allen tested positive for Covid-19 48 hours after arriving in Dhaka for the Kiwis' five-match T20I series against Bangladesh next month, confirmed New Zealand Cricket (NZC) in a statement today.
"He [Allen] has been quarantined at the team's hotel and immediate advice is that he is experiencing moderate symptoms," read the statement.
Allen was one of the two players who arrived in Dhaka from England, where he featured for the Birmingham Phoenix in the Hundred competition, four days prior to the rest of the squad. The NZC confirmed that the cricketer is fully vaccinated and had passed all his pre-departure tests in England before the latest positive report.
Allen is currently receiving treatment from the Bangladesh Cricket Board's chief medical officer; has been in contact with NZC's chief medical officer, and will be monitored during his stay in quarantine by BLACKCAPS doctor Pat McHugh.
Allen is said to be 'comfortable at the moment' and will be allowed to re-join the team after undergoing treatment, the statutory period of isolation and returning negative results on consecutive days.
The New Zealand squad landed in Dhaka today and will be in room quarantine for three days before the series. The players of the Tigers' squad are also scheduled to check into the hotel for quarantine today.
