Khaled granted Kent NOC, Shoriful denied
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has denied fast bowler Shoriful Islam a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for a stint with Kent in the County Championship, citing workload concerns and upcoming international commitments. Shoriful was set to follow Hasan Mahmud, who impressed during his recent stint with the county, but the opportunity has now gone to Khaled Ahmed instead.
BCB is now more conscious of workload and injury management after both Nahid Rana and Shoriful Islam were injured before the two-match Test series in Australia. Rana missed out on the entire series with a side strain, while Shoriful missed the first Test in Darwin before turning up with a seven-wicket haul in the second Test at Mackay against Australia.
Given the red-ball assignments coming up against Afghanistan, West Indies and South Africa, the board opted to prioritise Shoriful’s freshness.
“Shoriful was not given NOC considering his workload and upcoming international assignments,” a BCB official informed on Tuesday.
“Shoriful has a high frequency of matches coming up, and the board decided it was better to keep him fresh for those matches. County Championship is expected to have a big workload, and the upcoming international assignments from September through to October were the priority for the board,” a BCB source informed.
“Since Shoriful plays in all three formats and he has just come back from an injury, the board was not able to grant him NOC.”
Meanwhile, Khaled applied for an NOC, and it was granted, BCB sources confirmed.
