Joty, Ritu star as Tigresses beat Scotland to stay alive in tri-series
Bangladesh ended their losing streak in the Women's T20I Tri-Series with a 34-run victory over Scotland at the Grange Cricket Club Ground on Tuesday.
The win lifted the Tigresses to second place in the standings, ahead of the Netherlands, who have a game in hand.
After winning the toss, Bangladesh made a shaky start, losing Dilara Akter (15), Juairiya Ferdous (0) and Taj Nehar (4) cheaply. Skipper Nigar Sultana Joty and Sobhana Mostary then steadied the innings with a crucial 77-run partnership.
Joty top-scored with 58 off 47 deliveries, striking six fours and a six, while Mostary chipped in with 39 off 31 balls. Joty fell in the final over as Bangladesh posted 152 for six.
Bangladesh's bowlers made an equally impressive start. Marufa Akter struck twice early, while Sanjida Akter Meghla removed opener Darcey Carter to leave Scotland struggling in the chase.
Sarah Bryce's 40 helped Scotland recover briefly, but Ritu Moni broke the resistance with a superb spell of 4-12. Scotland were eventually bundled out for 118, handing Bangladesh a much-needed victory.
Bangladesh will face the Netherlands in their final league match on Thursday. The Dutch take on Scotland on Wednesday and could move ahead of Bangladesh with a win before the potentially decisive clash.
