BCB extends Lipu’s contract by a month; Two selector posts to be advertised
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has extended chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu’s contract by one month and will soon publish advertisements to fill two vacant positions in the national selection panel.
Lipu, who replaced Minhajul Abedin Nannu in February 2024, was due to see his contract expire on February 28. He recently informed the board via email that he was not interested in continuing under a long-term agreement.
Following a board of directors’ meeting on Sunday, BCB media committee chairman Amzad Hossain confirmed the decision.
“His contract is scheduled to end this February. We have extended it until March. The cricket operations department will decide the next course of action,” Amzad told The Daily Star.
“Apart from the chief selector, we have another vacancy in the selection panel and we will give advertisements in the newspapers for the vacancies.”
Previously, the Lipu-led panel included Abdur Razzak and Hannan Sarkar. Hannan stepped down in February last year to focus on his coaching career, leaving one position vacant.
Former pacer Hasibul Hossain Shanto was appointed as a selector in September. However, Razzak later resigned after more than four years in the role to contest the BCB elections. He was subsequently elected unopposed as a board director from the Khulna division.
