I started it; let's not take it too far: Mash

Wednesday's Bangladesh Premier League match between Rangpur Riders and Chittagong Vikings in Sylhet took a dark turn in the 17th over of Rangpur's chase, when Chittagong's Subhasish Roy advanced menacingly towards the much-beloved and revered Rangpur skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza.

A Subhasish yorker was dug out back to the bowler by Mashrafe, who gestured to the bowler to go back to his bowling mark after the youngster had shaped to throw the ball at the batsman, as bowlers often do in tense situations. Mashrafe's gesture and something he said to Subhasish ignited something in the bowler as a glare turned into a full-on advance towards his senior Bangladesh teammate, and amid heated words it took the intervention of Chittagong fielders to pull Subhasish away.

With Mashrafe being the most adored Bangladesh cricketer, Subhasish came under a lot of fire for his reaction in social media, and hours after the match Mashrafe spoke out in defence of his junior and apologised to Subhasish, saying that he is like a 'younger brother'  to him and that the senior had started it.

"I started it, and I would request everyone not to take it too far," said Mashrafe in a Facebook video message. "He also plays for Bangladesh, and he is like a younger brother to me. Things have already gone too far and I would request everyone to stop for my sake and for Subhasish."

Rangpur Riders eventually lost the match by 11 runs. Subhasish seemed to recover from the episode quickly as he conceded just four runs in the last over when Rangpur needed 16 to win.
