The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has seized a Bangladeshi fishing trawler carrying illegal consignments of sarees in the Sundarban area in West Bengal, our New Delhi correspondent reports.

In an intelligence-driven sea-air coordinated operation, the ICG on Tuesday intercepted the boat called 'Nurani' near India-Bangladesh international maritime boundary line.

Upon being chased, "Nurani's crew beached and fled in the shallow waters," the ICG tweeted on Thursday.

The trawler, carrying 363 sarees, was handed over to Gosaba police station of India's South 24 Parganas district.

Yesterday, the ICG said on Twitter that, "today, Bangladesh fishing boat Nurani with illegal textile consignment handed over by @IndiaCoastGuard to local police #Sunderban #WestBengal for joint investigation."
