FABLE FACTORY

Journey to Sverwood

Ahona Anupama Chowdhury

A few months ago I had lost my wand while flying over a dangerous place named Sverwood. It is known for its scary giants and mischievous goblins. Where I live it is much more peaceful and filled with happiness. When I had realized that I had lost my wand a scary thought came to my mind. Without my wand I don't have anything to control my powers, and that meant that I had to leave Switzelvania, home to all wizards, home to me! I had to get my wand
back, but how?

Wizards aren't allowed in Sverwood. Then I remembered, the inhabitants of a forest in Sverwood owe me a favour. Years ago when I was a pupil at the Wizard School, I had wandered into Sverwood forest by mistake. I saw smoke coming from a place and fire burning up the forest! I stopped the fire using my powers and the inhabitants granted me three wishes, and I could ask for them any time.

I used one of them to shape shift into a goblin and go to the forest. When I reached I met a goblin and he said to me, "Hi, where are you going? We're supposed to go the palace to see the stolen stick." "The stolen stick?" I asked, "What stolen stick?" "Don't you know?" asked the goblin, "The wand that we stole from the wizard when she was flying. We had been planning it for ages, and now that we've done it the Goblin King has arranged a feast and everyone is invited!" he explained as he walked away.

I came up with a plan to go to the feast, say hello to everyone and eat a little, if there is any cooked food, since goblins mostly eat whatever they find lying here and there. Then before everyone leaves I would take back the wand and leave. Then, I used another wish and granted a large army and explained my plan to them. "I will give a signal and if you get it, come out at once!" I went on explaining.

That evening I went to the palace executing my plan. I chatted with everyone and said that I was very excited to see the wand, and how glad I was that we had finally stolen it. I went to the balcony and signaled. When the army arrived everyone was astonished. I took back my wand and put a curse on the goblins. When I returned home I received an award for my bravery and the title of the Bravest Wizard.

Today the goblins aren't a problem and will not be for many years, but should the need arise; I still have one wish left.
