After several exciting rounds that lasted for about 4 months, from idea submission to crossing phases one after the other, Battle of Minds finally concluded with a triumph for Bangladesh with Sourodip Paul, Arijit Saha, and Ramim Ahmed and their team “Je Ne Sais Quoi” from IBA, DU.

History was made when two teams from Bangladesh went head on during the finals of United Asian Debating Championship (UADC) 2018, the most celebrated inter-varsity Parliamentary Debate Tournament in Asia. This was the 9th instalment of UADC, held in Bandung, Indonesia starting on May 27, 2018 and it is the first time teams from Bangladesh reached the finals and won the championship for the country.

Upholding its legacy, Battle of Minds stepped into its 15th year - a concept that originated in BAT Bangladesh with a vision to establish a world class platform where university students from Bangladesh can showcase their talents and receive the recognition they deserve.

But let's be real, you still step out of your safe haven once in a while for the purpose of being human. One fine, scorching day during Ramadan, an idea strikes you, which soon turns out to be a terrible one. And for once in your life, you feel brave enough to go for it.

I'm sure you all know how much we Bangladeshis enjoy shopping. The roads being full to the brim with clusters of people should be a good enough indicator of that fact. Not all of the things we buy are for ourselves, however. In fact, a significant portion of our shopping time is spent seeking out gifts for relatives and friends. This poses a unique set of struggles, some of which are highlighted below.

Established in 2003 under the Private University Act of 1992, Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) was created by the governing body of Dhaka Commerce College with the vision to create an institution that can provide quality education and training to the prospective students. The institution, run by a Board of Trustees and a Syndicate, set out to follow North American university standards under the regulations set by the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC).

While Dhaka may seem to lack shows where people can go and socialise at, “The Mic Peeps” have been offering a great solution. Starting its journey on February 1, 2018 at Banani's Gourmet Bazar, The Mic Peeps aims to help people showcase their talents in music, comedy, and any other form of performing arts. So far they've collaborated with the venue to host seven shows, with the most recent one taking place on May 10. I got the chance to visit the event and see what it was all about.

It's no secret that superheroes are pretty in now, enjoying a period of popularity in the mainstream thanks to a golden age of superhero media, from films to TV to even video games. While the DCEU is a hot sprawling mess, Superman still remains an iconic and beloved character in the hearts of people around the world, and it's pretty safe to say we'd be missing an entire industry if it wasn't for him.

On April 28, 2018, Singapore School Kinderland (SSK) celebrated the graduation of their Kindergarten-2 students and Primary-6 students at the auditorium of International School, Dhaka (ISD) in Bashundhara. The event was followed by a programme where children from the graduating grades took part in a musical performance.

On April 21, 2018, British Council hosted the national gala round of the first FameLab in Bangladesh at its University of Dhaka premises. Twelve finalists from across the country came together to celebrate and communicate their enthusiasm and passion for science at the event.

An inter-school team of six Bangladeshi high school students are all set to compete at the upcoming NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge 2018 to be held at the George C. Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, USA from April 12-15, 2018. This is the first ever high school team from Bangladesh to participate in any international rover challenge.

The Bangladeshi community in Melbourne has its fair share of North South University (NSU) alumni who often come together to take trips down the memory lane. This is probably why almost all of the NSU alumni in Melbourne are part of the registered “Melbourne NSUers” community.

It has been 35 years since Bangladesh International Tutorial (BIT) began its journey as one of the pioneering English medium schools in Dhaka and it continues to grow strong, educating 1800 young minds not only academically but also in music, dance and theatre.

Voice of Business (VOB), the largest student-run publication and a prominent business club of Bangladesh from the Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka, is launching its signature branding competition “BRANDrill 2018”. “GDay 2018 Bangladesh: Entrepreneurial success through technology and leadership skills” was held at North South University (NSU) on February 9, 2018. Engaging directly with over 600 participants, the programme was the largest of its kind held in Bangladesh.

SchoolSmart Minute Challenge, a game show for kids, started with a vision to curb children's addiction to gadgets through active participation in intellectual & physical challenges. In week 13, Cardiff International took on Turkish Hope in the first semi-final round. Round one began with pyramid crashing and Turkish Hope “broke-it-down” in record time for the win. Notre Dame English Club organised the 4th National English Carnival (NEC) from February 1 to 3, 2018.

With great anticipation, the show rolled into its 9th week to begin the quarter finals. Once again the kids of London Grace and Green Gems rolled up their sleeves and gave their best.
