UNYSABMUN 2015: A Model for a Better World

The UNYSAB Model United Nations (UNYSAB MUN) was held on September 4-7, 2015 at University of Rajshahi. United Nations Youth and Students Association of Bangladesh (UNYSAB) - Rajshahi Divisional Wing organised this Model UN Conference for the second time in Rajshahi after the successful completion of UNYSAB MUN-2014 with University of Rajshahi and UNIC Dhaka as the strategic partner.  The theme of the MUN conference was "Reinstating good governance for equitable and sustainable economic growth", one of the most significant issues in the current world.

The conference began with a grand opening ceremony in the presence of Md. Shahriar Alam M.P., State Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the chief guest while the Pro-VC of Rajshahi University Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Sarowar Jahan; Student Adviser of Rajshahi University Prof. Dr. Sadequl Arefin Matin and Officer in Charge of UNIC, Dhaka, Moniruzzaman were also present as the special guests. Sarit Kayum Talukder, Director General of UYSAB MUN 2015 and Co-ordinator of UNYSAB - Rajshahi divisional wing hosted the opening ceremony of the MUN Conference and it was presided over by the Secretary General of UNYSABMUN 2015 and president of UNYSAB, Mohammad Mamun Mia. 

The chief guest, in his speech, said, "Bangladesh is going to attend the 70th conference of UN after 3 weeks for the settlement of very significant issues. I am very much optimistic to see you here, because you are going to represent Bangladesh in the future." 

The opening ceremony was followed by plenary and committee session. With the participation of 266 students from around 40 colleges and universities, UNYSAB 2015 was the largest international MUN conference outside of Dhaka. The participants gathered as delegates from different countries, under 5 committees, and debated on different agendas. Five committees were United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Economic and Financial Council Affairs (ECOFIN) and Specialised Committee for Bangladesh Affairs (SCBA).

The conference included committee sessions, a campus tour and a cultural programme on second and third day of the conference. A general assembly like UN was held on the fourth day at Senate Bhaban to pass the resolution.

UNYSAB MUN- 2015 ended with a festive closing ceremony. Fazle Hossain Badsha, M.P., chaired the event while VC of the university, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mizanuddin was present as special guest. The chief guest highlighted the migrant crisis all over the world and called on the United Nations for adequate steps to meet the crisis. 

At the end of the closing ceremony, a certificate awarding ceremony was held where a total of 25 awards were distributed in different categories.

Mahmudul Haque Menom from Dhaka University who was a delegate of Tunisia from SCBA committee shared his feelings, "A platform you stand on with the liabilities of the betterment of the world - UNYSABMUN 2015 is an exact motion to guide you in that path."
