DCJMUN'16: DELEGATES OF PORT CITY GET TOGETHER

Drishty Chittagong Junior Model United Nations Conference'2016 (DCJMUN) - the academic simulation of a United Nations conference took place from October 13-15, 2016 in the port city of Chittagong organised by Drishty Chittagong. The event was partnered by The Daily Star.

Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic simulation of UN activities where participants learn about art of diplomacy, negotiation, foreign policy as well as providing opportunity for participants to get practical knowledge about how the UN actually works.

Drishty Chittagong, an educational and cultural organisation of Chittagong hosted the second edition of DCJMUN where 256 delegates participated in six different UN committees, namely UNSC, SOCHUM, UNDP, UN-HABITAT, UNHRC and UNESCO. The committee sessions were chaired by twelve experienced and veteran MUN-ers: Ahnaf Tahmid, Mohammad Jahin, Asif Ahmed Tonmoy, Rafi Reza, Mahjabeen Hai, Samiha Sahel, Tasveer Islam, Samin Ahsan, Inshirah Ali, Humayara Momotaz, Tasnia Priota and Maleha Murtaz.

Professor Ahsanul Alam Parvez, Chairman, EC Committee, IBBL was present as the chief guest at inauguration ceremony where Professor Dr. Mahfuzul Haque, VC, Chittagong Independent University was present as the special guest. Monzurul Haque, Chairman, Barcode Café Restaurant Group and Zunayeed Noor Alam, Founder, Model SAARC and NSU MUNC, Masud Bakul, President, Drishty Chittagong and Saif Chowdhury, Adviser, DCJMUN'16 were present as guests of honour. The inauguration ceremony was presided by Principal Safia Ghazi Rahman, Chairman, Debate Wing of Drishty Chittagong and the welcome speech was delivered by Secretary General of the conference, Zunayed Kaushik Chowdhury. 

The closing ceremony of the largest school-college level Model UN Conference of southern Bangladesh took place at Hotel The Peninsula Chittagong. The plenary session of closing ceremony was presided by Zunayed Kaushik Chowdhury, Secretary General, DCJMUN'16 where Chairpersons and Vice Chairpersons of the six Model UN committees of this conference were present.

Waseqa Ayesha Khan, MP, and Chief Patron, DCJMUN'16 was present as chief guest of award giving sessions of closing ceremony. Renowned industrialist Nader Khan, Mohammad Mohsin, Consul General, Republic of Korea and Vice Chairman, PHP Family, Wahid Malek, Managing Editor, The Daily Azadi, Saif Chowdhury, Senior Vice President, Drishty Chittagong, and Banakusum Barua, General Secretary, Drishty Chittagong also attended the event. 

A total of 42 awards were distributed at the award giving ceremony. The Daily Star was the youth engagement partner of this conference where Chittagong Independent University was venue partner, Barcode Café was food partner and The Daily Azadi was media partner.
