SUB signs MoU with Russian universities

Southern University Bangladesh (SUB) has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Moscow State Linguistic University and Ural Federal University of Russia. The MoU was recently signed by SUB Initiator and Founder Sarwar Jahan. This MoU was about sharing academic and intellectual co-operation with SUB and the two universities.

According to MoU, SUB and the two foreign university's teachers and students will get opportunity for joint sponsored research, development, consulting, higher education such as Masters, M.Phil and Ph.D. This MoU also includes exchange of technical material, joint conferences, workshops and intellectual property.

Initiator and Founder Sarwar Jahan expressed optimism that the partnership will succeed to mutually benefit the three organisations of higher learning.

NSU team excels at ACM-ICPC 2015 regionals

NSU_BugLovers, winners of the ACM-ICPC 2015 Dhaka Regional Site Event, team from ECE department of North South University, participated in the ACM-ICPC 2015 Asia Regional Amritapuri Site, India on December 20-21, 2015 and secured 4th position in combined merit list after IIT Delhi (1st), IIT Kharagpur (2nd) and IIT Kanpur (3rd). The team consisting Mohammad Samiul Islam, Hasib Al Muhaimin and Pinku Debnath was led by Dr. Shazzad Hosain, faculty member.

Amritapuri site in Inda is the world's largest ACM-ICPC regional site. It is a multi-site contest where 314 teams from all over India and neighbouring countries, including 2 teams from Bangladesh from NSU and DU, participated simultaneously from three different cities - Amritapuri (Kerala), Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) and Bengaluru (Karnataka).

For the last couple of years, top 4 (four) teams from Amritapuri site have been selected for the World Finals. Although not officially declared, NSU_BugLovers has good chance this year to go to World Finals this year.

"We are delighted to have such a result and are looking to do better results in World Finals. We are also putting more resources for our students like Intra-NSU competitions, providing full scholarships for talented programming students, taking steps on training IOI (International Olympiad of Informatics), etc.," said Dr. Shazzad Hosain.

Future Leaders Program to air its third season

The third season of reality show "The Future Leaders Program (FLP)" will start from January 15, 2016 on Channel i. The show will be broadcasted every Tuesday and Friday after the 9 PM news on Channel i.

FLP started in 2013 on Channel i is the first business-educational TV reality show in the history of Bangladesh. The applicants have to face many challenges through different tasks. They also have to go through both written and oral test. The top performers will be given the opportunity to study in reputed European universities. The programme is directed by AK Reza Galib. Abdul Muktadir, Managing Director of Incepta Pharmaceuticals and Taslim Ahmed, Head of Corporate Communications and Public Relations of Citycell will be the judges of the programme. Besides, top corporate personnel will be present as guest judges. This season, students from business, medical, engineering, political science, accounting, history, etc. background can participate in the contest to link innovation with ethical and sustainable business activities to make a real difference contributing to our national development.

FLP assists participants to understand more about professional life and helps them transform themselves. Here the students get the true taste of professional life. In other words, FLP is the bridge between student life and professional life. This program accelerates the process for a participant to becoming a future leader in the sector he/she operates. 

AIUB celebrates Architecture Week 2016 

On celebration of 10 years of its Architecture Department, American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) held "AIUB Architecture Week 2016" from January 4 to 7 at AIUB. An inauguration programme was organised at AIUB Auditorium where the Chairman of RAJUK, G. M. Jainul Abedin Bhuiya was present as chief guest. The VC, Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna; Registrar Prof. M. A. Quaiyum; Dean (Faculty of Engineering) Prof. Dr. A B M Siddique Hossain; Dean (Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences) Prof. Dr. Tazul Islam; Director (Finance & Accounts) Khondaker Sabbir Mohd. Kabir; Director (Students Affairs) Manzur H. Khan; Director (Public Relations) Md. Lutfar Rahman; President of Institute of Architects of Bangladesh Architect Abu Sayeed M Ahmed; Adviser (Department of Architecture) Prof. Dr. Saleh Uddin; Head (Department of Architecture) Sr. Asst. Prof. M. Arefeen Ibrahim; faculty members, officials and students were also presents. 

The second day of the commencement of celebration ceremony programme was held at IAB Center, Sher E Bangla Nagar, Agargaon on January 05, 2016 where Architect Yeafesh Osman MP, Minister for Science and Technology was present as chief guest. 

The four day eventful programme included international student design competition, lectures and workshops by local and international experts, student work exhibition, publications, cultural programme, etc. The core attraction of the four day event was the presence of Francis. D.K. Ching, widely recognized as author of bestselling books addressing Architectural and Design Graphics.

SEU organises seminar on history of CSE in Bangladesh

Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Southeast University (SEU) organised a seminar titled "CSE: How it all started in Bangladesh" on January 9, 2016 in the Seminar Hall of SEU. Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Syed, Professor, Department of Information Systems and Technology, Minnesota State University - Mankato was present at the programme as chief guest, while Dr. M. Kaykobad, Professor, Department of CSE, BUET and Prof. Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, Pro-VC of  SEU were present respectively as special guest and guest of honour. Prof. Anwar Hossain, VC of SEU chaired the programme.  Prof. Syed Fakhrul Hassan, Dean (Acting), School of Science and Engineering and Shahriar Manzoor, Chairman (Acting), Department of CSE delivered respectively the vote of thanks and welcome address. Dr. Md. Quamruzzaman, Chairman Dept. of EEE and ICE also addressed the programme. 

Speakers shared their memories and experiences on how Computer Science and Engineering started its journey in Bangladesh. They discussed on different historical moments in this regard. They also briefed about challenges and opportunities of CSE education in Bangladesh.  

Among others, Maj. Gen. Kazi Fakhruddin Ahmed, psc (Retd.), Registrar of SEU, Wing Cdr. Syed Ahmed Kabir, fawc, psc (Retd.), Chief Coordinator of BOT, SEU Trust, Deans of different Schools, chairs of different departments and a good number of faculty members and students attended the programme.
