IUBAT and Amari Dhaka sign MoU
International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) and Amari Dhaka Hotel signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation, practical, internship and job placement. The MoU signing ceremony took place at Amari Dhaka on December 31, 2015. Prof. Dr. M Alimullah Miyan, Founder and VC of IUBAT and Kelly James Lewis, General Manager of the Amari Dhaka signed the MoU for and on behalf of the respective organisations.
Among others, the MoU is intended to facilitate all exchanges and co-operative initiatives between the two institutions in the areas of training, practical works, education, research, development, instruction, service and exchange of professionals and trainers.

MoU between AIBS and BRACU
American Institute of Bangladesh Studies (AIBS) and BRAC University (BRACU) entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on mutual collaboration on December 28, 2015 that took place at BRAC University, Dhaka. The MoU covers joint research collaboration between AIBS member higher education institutions in the United States and BRACU. It also includes exchange of educational and research staff as well as exchange of publication, academic materials and other information between the two institutions.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Golam Mathbor, President of AIBS and Prof. Syed Saad Andaleeb, Ph.D., VC of BRACU. Among others, Dr. Farhat Iftekharuddin, Pro-VC (in-charge), BRACU; Sukhendra Kumar Sarkar, Treasurer, BRACU; Dr. Rebecca Manring, Secretary of AIBS and Sudipta Roy, AIBS Resident Fellow were present in the signing ceremony.
The American Institute of Bangladesh Studies (AIBS) is an association of institutions of higher learning in the United States aimed at promoting scholarly understanding between Bangladesh and United States. AIBS is a member of the Council for American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC) and affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh. Currently, AIBS has 20 member higher education institutions in the United States and 14 partner universities in Bangladesh.
Qayum Reza Chowdhury elected new chairperson of UAPF
Qayum Reza Chowdhury, a noted educationist, businessman and former President of BGBHA has been elected as the new Chairperson of the University of Asia Pacific Foundation (UAPF) and Chairperson, Board of Trustees (BOT) of University of Asia Pacific for 2016-2017 respectively.
A new office bearer of BOT was formed following an Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Foundation on December 30, 2015 when former UAPF Chairperson A. K. M. Kamaluddin Choudhury handed over the charges to the new chairperson.
The 32-member Board of Governors (BOG) body unanimously elected Qayum Reza Chowdhury as Chairperson. Other office bearers elected are: Anhar Ahmed Chowdhury as Senior Vice-Chairperson, Abdul Mohin Chowdhury and Architect Mahbuba Haque as Vice-Chairperson and K.M. Akhtaruzzaman as Treasurer.
SPE Petroleum Conference held at DU
Dhaka University student chapter of SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) and Department of Geology, Earth and Environmental faculty of University of Dhaka organised SPE Petroleum Conference on December 4-5, 2015. This event was sponsored by KrisEnergy and RMM Group. Chief guest on this occasion was Pro-VC (Administration), Prof. Dr. Shahid Akhter Hossain. Special guest was Prof. Dr. A. S. M. Maksud Kamal, Dean, Faculty of Earth and Environmental sciences. The main attractions of this programme were Petrobowl (quiz), poster presentation and seminar. Officials of different multinational petroleum companies were present on the occasion.
Students of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Jahangirnagar University, Shahjalal University of Science & Technology were also participated in different events in this conference. Also guests from BUET and Barisal University will visit the conference.
A student of Department of Geology who participated in this programme stated, "This type of conference creates a platform of exposure of young geologists to the national and multinational companies. I wish programmes like this will continue in future in our Department to provide a good platform for emergence of petroleum geologists."
President of SPE Dhaka University Chapter says, "For the first time we arranged a programme successfully and I hope it will continue in future."
At the closing ceremony Prof. Dr. A. S. M. Maksud Kamal, Dean, Faculty of Earth & Environmental Sciences gave crests to the winners on December 05, 2015.
KUET to organise Tech Fiesta 2016
Department of EEE, KUET is going to organise the Inter University TECH FIESTA'16 for the second time in January 22-23, 2016 where different universities from around the country will gather and compete for the glory in various challenging tech events.
Last time the same programme was organized in 2012 that was made successful by a gathering of 1200 participants from 35 different universities.
The two-day event will consist of a project show on hardware implementation and showcasing on power, electronics, embedded systems and robotics. There will also be a software exhibition, academic software/mobile apps, industrial software/mobile apps, robot duels, project idea and poster presentation, IT contest, Sudoku contest, Rubik's Cube challenge, alumni talks, speaker session, prize giving ceremony and cultural fest.
