ASIS Inter-School CRAFT Competition 2015

American Standard International School (ASIS) held "ASIS Inter School Craft Competition" at their Gulshan 2 Campus on December 12, 2015. Chief Guest for the competition was the United States Ambassador Marcia Bernicat. Participants from kindergarten and above from various schools attended the craft competition for prizes which were distributed by the ambassador.

In his speech during the prize distribution ceremony, the Chairman of ASIS, Shah Muhammad Hasan, said that ASIS prides itself in promoting and organising out-of-the-box extracurricular activities such as fencing, karate, piano, robotics, arts and crafts etc. He also mentioned that drawing and painting have been the predominant focus in society today, and that crafting should be equally recognised and practiced among school children.

The chief guest, Marcia Bernicat, also gave an inspiring speech where she thanked ASIS and appreciated them for organising the event.

"Concert for Kombol" at ASAUB

Business Club of ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB) organised a concert for collecting warm clothes for winter suffering people. The title of this concert was "Concert for Kombol". Prof. Dr. Dalem Ch. Barman, VC of ASAUB was present as the chief guest. Some local musical bands participated in the concert. The students and the teachers enjoyed the programme and they also purchased a good number of blankets and donated those to the organisers for distributing the same among the people suffering from cold.
Dean and Chairmen from different faculties and departments; Md. Khalequzzaman, Registrar; Md. Ashraful Haq Chowdhury, Additional Registrar of ASAUB; teachers and students from different departments and officials of ASAUB were also present.      

Victory Day Celebration at ITHS

The International Turkish Hope School (ITHS) organised a grand Victory Day Celebration on December 15, 2015. The event brought out utmost festivity at the ITHS auditorium in the main campus which has already been decorated with miniatures of National Mausoleum, colorful festoons and digitised banners portraying the memorable moments of the nation's victory in the Liberation War.
To celebrate the magnificent occasion with due respect and enthusiasm, the school arranged a two-hour programme including Bangla group dances, patriotic songs, poem recitation and a drama which outstandingly depicted the scenario of the war in 1971.
The Chairman of ITHS, Bedrettin Suata, paid homage to the valiant freedom fighters and millions of martyrs. Sahara Khatun, Advocate, MP and former Minister of Home Affairs and Minister of Telecommunications was present at the event. Yavuz Koca, Vice Principal of ITHS; Idris Koken, Head of Senior Girls Section and Zubeyir Bayram, Head of Senior Boys Section were also present among the audience.

Voices Across Borders at BRACU

The Department of Economics and Social Sciences (ESS) at BRAC University organised a day-long international seminar, "Voices across Borders: Bangladesh and Myanmar/Burma Dialogue" on December 20, 2015. Part of a broader initiative to promote intellectual and civic engagement between the two countries, the event was a follow up to a meeting held in Yangon earlier in the year when a number of activists and scholars of Bangladesh visited Myanmar.
Prof. Dr. Syed Saad Andaleeb, BRACU's VC, offered welcoming comments at the inaugural session. Presentations by the visiting speakers - writers, scholars and rights activists - covered a range of subjects, from overlapping and contested ethnic identities across the Burma-Bangladesh border to the predicament of single women in contemporary Myanmar. The seminar provided a space for fresh insights and analysis on issues of mutual significance.
The seminar was co-organised by Dina Siddiqi (BRACU), Meghna Guhathakurta (Research Initiatives Bangladesh), Tharaphi Than (Northern Illinois University) and Willem van Schendel (University of Amsterdam).

FOCUS 15 held at UIU

Finance Forum, a wing of Career Counseling Centre of United International University (UIU) organised the intra-varsity financial competency competition "'FOCUS 15'' in its own campus.  
UIU VC Prof. Dr. M. Rezwan Khan, presided over the ceremonies while Md. Saifur Rahman Patwary (Azad), Deputy Managing Director, First Security Islamic Bank Limited, was present as the chief guest. Salah Uddin Ahmed, Senior Vice President & Head of Research and Development Unit, Dhaka Bank Limited and Humaira Sharmeen, Managing Editor, The Bonikbarta, were present as special guests on the programme.
FOCUS 15 is an exclusive idea to judge the capabilities of the students in financial reasoning. Core concept of this idea is to make the participants of the programme to find out the critical financial reasons because of which a company's financial performance deviates from the expectations. The competition consisted of Quiz (1st round), Financial Statement Analysis and Manipulation (2nd round) and Financial Case Solving and Presentation (final round).
Top three of the competition were Sadman Shoumik Ahmed (Champion), Md. Tanvir Hossain (1st Runner-Up) and Yeasin Md. Esha (2nd Runner-Up).

CIU holds Freshmen & MBA Evening 2015

The Freshmen & MBA Evening 2015 of Chittagong Independent University (CIU) was held recently in the port city at Hotel Radisson Blu Chittagong Bay View recently. The gala event was presided over by Dr. Irshad Kamal Khan, Pro-VC of CIU while Prof. Abdul Mannan, Chairman of UGC and Ar. Taslimuddin Chowdhury, Editor of The Daily Purbokone graced the same as the chief and special guest respectively.
In his address, Prof. Abdul Mannan, UGC Chair, urged the youngsters to build themselves in such a way so that they can meet the demand of the country and society. Special guest Ar. Taslimuddin Chowdhury opined that, the various types of competitions need to be organised, with a view to enhancing the skills and talent of the students. Among others, CIU Trustee Board Members Engr. Ali Ahmed, Md. Aminuzzaman Bhuiyan, Dilruba Ahmed also addressed in the event, while  Amir Humayun Mahmud Chowdhury, Safia Ghazi Rahman and Ismail Dobash were also present in the event. The event was conducted by Engr. Rashid A. Chowdhury, faculty member of CIU.
Later, the chief guest handed over the crests among the scholarship achievers of various semesters and the winners of CIU Annual Sports Event 2015. The event concluded with a cultural programme.

4th Eastern University Math Olympiad 2015

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Eastern University (EU) arranged the 4th Eastern University Mathematics Olympiad 2015 for higher secondary level students on December 18, 2015 at EU premises. Seven hundred students from 141 different colleges of the country took part in this national level Olympiad.
The participants had two hours to solve 12 challenging mathematical problems. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, Head of the Dept., EEE, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology graced the prize giving ceremony as the chief guest and distributed the prizes; Prof. Dr. M. Kaykobad, Dept. of CSE, BUET was present as guest of honor.
Abul Khair Chowdhury, Chairman, BOT, EU; Prof. Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Pro-VC; Prof. Dr. Mortuza Ali, Dean, E&T, EU were also present in this programme as special guests. Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab, VC, presided over the ceremony.
Zawad Abdullah, student of Dhaka Residential Model College became the champion; first and second runners-up were Tanveer Muttaqueen, student of Dhaka College and Sazid Akter Turzo, student of Sirajgonj Govt. College respectively. Royal Buffet sponsored the programme.
