Fresher's Reception and Orientation Programme at SEU

Fresher's Reception and Orientation Programme for the Fall Semester - 2015 of Southeast University (SEU) was held at Tejgaon, Dhaka on October 3, 2015.  Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq was present as chief guest, while Professor Emeritus and founder VC of SEU Prof. Dr. M. Shamsher Ali was present as guest of honour. VC of SEU Prof. Anwar Hossain presided over the programme. Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury was present as special guest. Registrar Maj. Gen. Kazi Fakhruddin Ahmed, psc (Retd.) welcomed newly enrolled students. Dean, SASS, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Hakim; Dean, SSE, Prof. Syed Fakhrul Hassan and Dean, SBS, Prof. Dr. Golam Ahmed Faruqui also welcomed the students and introduced their respective schools.

Highlighting about the quality of education in SEU, the speakers encouraged the students to have right goal for life and positive mindset to pursue education consistently. The speakers also reiterated that SEU has the right environment to help them in achieving their goals. 

The programme was attended among others by the Chief Coordinator of BOT, SEU Trust Wing Cdr. Syed Ahmed Kabir, fawc, psc (Retd.), chairs of different departments, distinguished guests, senior academicians, faculty members, officials of SEU, newly enrolled students and their guardians. 

Lecture by Prof. Joya Chatterji at BRACU

On September 23, 2015 at BRAC Centre Inn Auditorium, BRAC University was honoured to host renowned Prof. Joya Chatterji, a Fellow of Trinity College, and Director of the Centre of South Asian Studies and the Editor of the journal "Modern Asian Studies", as a speaker in the Distinguished Scholars Series programme. Her public lecture focused on topic based on inter-regional migration of Bengali people since 1907. She presented her topic "On Being Stuck: Immobility and poverty in divided Bengal". 

Prof. Joya Chatterji

Prof. Joya Chatterji read History at the University of Delhi before taking a PhD in History at Cambridge.  She taught International History at the London School of Economics for several years, taking up a post at the University of Cambridge in 2007. Prof. Chatterji teaches modern South Asian and world history at Cambridge. She lectures on "World History since 1900" and "The History of the Indian subcontinent from the late eighteenth century to the present day". She convenes the MPhil in Modern South Asian Studies and teaches, together with Dr. David Washbrook, on South Asian migration and diaspora.

IBA DU professor leaves for USA

Dr. A. K. M. Saiful Majid, Professor and Director, Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka, has left for the USA on October 6, 2015 representing IBA in the Herman B. Wells - M. O. Ghani Faculty Fellowship Programme at Kelley School of Business, Indiana University, Bloomington, USA. 

The programme is designed with the purpose to strengthen strategic partnership between IBA and Indiana University, Bloomington through intensive academic collaboration. The focus is on learning and transfer of best academic practices and approaches relating to different areas (pedagogy, curriculum development, etc.) of tertiary business education. The programme envisages ensuring excellence in education. It is important to mention here that the Indiana University, Bloomington had played a significant historic role in shaping IBA as the premier business school in Bangladesh.

ULAB holds Fall 2015 Fresher's Orientation 

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised its Fall 2015 Fresher's Orientation on October 3, 2015 at its Dhanmondi campus. Emphasising ULAB's missions of sustainability, active learning and liberal arts practice, the orientation consisted of mixed media and video presentations about ULAB's mission, code of conduct, handbook, library, career service centre and other facilities. Quiz games were sprinkled throughout presentations to encourage learning through fun. ULAB's Sangskriti Sangshad performed the ULAB Theme song for students.

In the formal part of the ceremony, ULAB VC Prof. Imran Rahman addressed the students. He emphasised for them to reach higher through knowledge. He also introduced the heads of each department: Prof. Kaiser Hamidul Haq of English, Prof. Muhammad Ibrahim of General Education, Dr. Jude Genilo of Media Studies and Journalism, Dr. Sazzad Hossain of Computer Science and Engineering, Prof. Rezaul Karim Mazumder of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering and Prof. William H. Derrenger of the School of Business. 

"Rise Above All" by Don Sumdany Facilitation & Consultancy

Don Sumdany Facilitation & Consultancy presented a certified workshop "Rise Above All" on September 12, 2015 in association and sponsorship by EMK Center and in partnership with Vertical Horizon(VH). The entire module was carefully selected and implemented with an aim to develop the mindset, motivate and inspire the students of O Levels, A Levels, SSC and HSC. The aim was to provide the youngsters with a clear career path. It also focused on helping them lose any sorts of negativity, ego and fear - anything that is holding them back from achieving great success in their lives. The event started at 10 am with an ice breaker by the Chief Inspirational Office of Don Sumdany Facilitation & Consultancy, G. Sumdany Don. The Managing Director of Vertical Horizon (VH), Tawsif Alam Khan, added some very insightful career advices.

The speakers tackled topics which were different usual things the participants were taught in schools and coaching centres. The topics covered in the event were "The Chess Piece vs. the Chess Player", "I am my own creator - Don't be a victim, be a player", "Stop giving excuses - Take responsibility for your actions, stop the blame game and be a winner", "The Circle of Concern vs. The Circle of Influence", "The three picture game", "The optimist vs. the pessimist", "Self-empowerment - Are we focusing on things we can control and change?", "Positive Perspective = Positive Life".
"Live for today, because life doesn't get better or worse, it is as it is," said G. Sumdany Don during the end of the event. The event concluded with the certificate giving ceremony and a group picture.
