Top-Up IT Training programme for NSU students
The inaugural ceremony of the Top-Up IT Training programme for NSU students, supported by the ICT Division of the Government of Bangladesh was held on September 7, 2015 at AUDI 801, North South University. The programme was presided by Prof. Dr. Gour Gobinda Goswami, Vice Chancellor (In Charge). MA Kashem, Chair, BoT, North South University Trust, attended the occasion as the chief guest and Kamal Mansharamani, Director, Ernst & Young LLP, Kamalesh Vyas from Ernst & Young and Enamul Kabir, Director, Training, Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) attended as special guests.
NSU has signed an MoU with the ICT Division of Bangladesh recently, under which a group of selected senior students of relevant undergraduate programs of NSU will be trained on industry based up-to-date ICT related top-up courses. World renowned consulting company Ernst & Young will be the trainer for this programme for a period of 300 hours contact time. After successful completion of the programme, a percentage of top scorers will be recruited by reputed national and international ICT related companies. Apart from this, a certificate under the programme from Ernst & Young and ICT Division, as well as another certificate form George Washington University, USA will be provided to successful participants. Prof. Md. Sirajul Islam, Dean, SEPS is coordinating the programme from NSU part.
IUB hosts Prof. M. Alauddin
Dr. Mohammad Alauddin, Professor and Megerle Endowed Chair of the Department of Chemistry at Wagner College, New York, USA has spent two weeks with the School of Life Sciences at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) as a Fulbright Specialist, advising on issues of curriculum development, innovative teaching methods, and on engaging students and faculty in multi-disciplinary research.
During his visit he also presented a seminar on the "Exposure to Hexavalent Chromium from Tannery Wastes and Health Risks for the Urban Population in Bangladesh". VC of IUB, Prof. M. Omar Rahman spoke on the occasion. Dr. Rita Yusuf, Dean of the School of Life Sciences & Associate Director of the Center for Health, Population and Development (CHPD) at IUB offered the formal vote of thanks. Shaheen Khan, Cultural Affairs Specialist at the U.S. Department, USAID, representatives along with members of the IUB administration and faculty also attended the session.
My Academy-RLC 2nd DRMC Language Festival 2015
Remians Language Club (RLC) is arranging a gathering of language enthusiasts from different schools around the country at Dhaka Residential Model College in "My Academy-RLC 2nd DRMC Language Festival 2015", which is supported by Bangla Academy. There will be a number of events divided into 4 groups. The junior group from Class 6 to 8; secondary group from Class 9 to 10 and O Levels; senior group for the college students and A Level students; and lastly the university group. The events include spelling, extempore speeches, head and tails, poem writing, script writing, intensive reading, listening skill test, wall magazines, scrapbooks, language based quiz, language based Olympiad and a photography contest. Most of the events will be held in both Bangla and English to set a platform which will enable the participants to hone their linguistic skills and showcase their expertise in a national stage.

AIUB wins Clemon Indoor Uni Cricket 2015
American International University – Bangladesh (AIUB) has again become Champions of the 3rd Clemon Indoor Uni Cricket 2015. AIUB beat Bangladesh University in the final match held at the Mirpur Indoor Stadium on September 7, 2015. Batting first AIUB scored 141/4 in their allotted 8 over. In reply, Bangladesh University managed 112/4. Mehrab Hossain Junior of AIUB won the Man of the Final. Liton Das was judged the Man of Tournament for his all-round contribution. AIUB received BDT 5 lac as prizemoney.
Obaidul Quader, MP, Minister for Road Transport and Bridges witnessed the final game and handed over the champion trophy to the winners as chief guest.
DIU organises orientation for faculty members
The orientation programme for the newly joined full time faculty members of Daffodil International University (DIU) was held on September 9. Presided over by Prof. Dr. Yusuf M. Islam, VC, the orientation programme was addressed by founder VC Prof. Dr. Aminul Islam; Emeritus Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman; Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Rahman; Hamidul Haque Khan, Treasurer; Prof. Dr. SM Mahbub-Ul-Haque Majumder, Dean, Faculty of Science and Information Technology; Prof. Dr. Ahmad Ismail Mustafa, Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Science. Prof. Dr. Engr. A.K.M. Fazlul Hoque, Registrar, conducted the programme. A total of 70 full time faculty members joined in different faculties of DIU in this fall semester 2015.
FYAT Day at BRACU
BRAC University continues with its exciting first-year advising programme for the freshers of Fall 2015. As a part of the freshmen orientation programme, new students met with their First Year Advising Team (FYAT) during the FYAT Day on August 31, 2015. Each FYAT group comprises of a faculty adviser and peer mentor who provide individual and group advising to support new students, monitor their academic needs and performance, and guide academic planning during their first year at BRACU.
The fun-filled day, entirely run by student volunteers from all departments, commenced with an inaugural speech by the VC Prof. Dr. Syed Saad Andaleeb and a brief address by Dr. Seuty Sabur, Director In-Charge of the Office of Student Affairs and Teaching & Learning Centre. This was followed by a brief on the Writing Centre by Kerry Sauer, Coordinator of the Writing Centre along with a tranquil session of meditation by Safina Binte Enayet, Psychosocial Counselor from the Counseling Unit at BRAC University.
IEB accreditation for civil engineering at Stamford
The Institution of Engineers Bangladesh granted accreditation to the Civil Engineering Department of Stamford University Bangladesh. The university fulfilled the entire prerequisites prior to this accreditation.
The recognition was celebrated on Siddeshwari campus of the university on September 3, 2015. Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, Minister of Information, graced the event as the chief guest.
Prof. Dr. MA Hannan Feroz, the Founder, President, and former VC of the University, who chaired the occasion, mentioned that Stamford University Bangladesh never compromises with the quality of education.
As special guests, the event was also attended by Fatinaaz Feroz, AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem, Mahbub Alam Zakir, members of the University's Board of Trustees, and the VC Prof. Dr. M. Feroze Ahmed. The day-long celebration included Nagar Baul James' performance and other cultural presentations.
EWU arranges two-day workshop for public and private universities
East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT) organised a two-day workshop titled "Academic Writing, Publication and Research Methods" in collaboration with Center for Development through Open Learning, Publishing and Communication (CEDOLPC) on September 11-12, 2015 in EWU Campus, Aftabnagar, Dhaka.
Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson, BOT, EWU and former Governor, Bangladesh Bank attended as the chief guest of the inaugural ceremony. Dr. Rafiqul Huda Chaudhury, Chairperson, EWUCRT and Member, BOT, EWU chaired the programme.
Prof. Ahmed Shafee, VC of EWU attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest. He distributed certificates among the participants at the ceremony. Prof. Dr. Manzurul Islam, Director, CEDOLPC, and Prof. Dr. Muhammed Shahriar Haque, Executive Director of EWUCRT were at the closing ceremony.
