Farewell Programme for SUB's Civil Engineering Dept. 

A farewell programme for the Civil Engineering Department of Southern University was held recently at the Engineers Institution Chittagong Centre auditorium. Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Professor Abdul Mannan, attended the function as the chief guest. The farewell ceremony was presided over by the Pro-VC of the university and head of the Civil Engineering Department, Professor Ali Ashraf. The event was inaugurated by Chairman of the Southern University Bangladesh Trustee Board and chairman of the KDS Group, Khalilur Rahman.

Among others, Vice Chancellor of SUB, Professor Dr. Nurul Mostafa; founder of SUB, Sarwar Jahan; CUET (Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology) Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Rafiqul Alam; Consulting Professor of the SUB Engineering Department, Professor Mozammel Huq; and dean of the Science Faculty, Professor Sharifuzzaman, spoke at the event.


Daraz arranges D-Force meet up

A D-Force event was organised at Abacus Restaurant on September 29, 2016 to announce a new captain of the team and a prize giving ceremony. The new captain Shoikot Mondol was introduced and he shared his journey at Daraz. Before the prize giving ceremony, a brief training was held. It included lessons on how to gather new clients and how to sellers to buy from them.

Two D-force members were awarded for commendable performance on "Flash Sale" and "Mobile Week". Benjamin de Fouchier, Managing Director of Daraz was present at the event and he distributed prizes among the winners. He shared his views about D-Force among the agents and described future plans.

D-Force agents shared their thoughts about the project and asked for more assistance. The event ended with a buffet dinner.


EUB appoints new VC

On being appointed by the Chancellor and President of the Peoples' Republic of  Bangladesh, Prof. Dr. Mokbul Ahmed Khan has joined European University of Bangladesh as the VC with effect from October 6, 2016. Prof. Dr. Mokbul Ahmed Khan was born of a respectable Muslim family of Gopalganj.  He obtained his B.A. (Hons.) and M.A. degree in Economics from Dhaka University and Ph.D from Moscow Textile University in 1976.  In his long teaching career, Prof. Dr. Khan served as professor of Business Administration in as many as five universities including Bradford University of UK and Otago University of New Zealand. He also served as the Textile Adviser of The World Bank for government of Bangladesh for more than 16 years. Dr. Khan actively took part in the Liberation War of 1971, as a member of the Mujib Bahini in Gopalganj district. Prof. Dr. Khan has authored 10 books and over 200 research and consultancy articles in national and international journals.


IUB graduate awarded"Florida Earth Young Scholar"

Shahnoor Hasan, a graduate of M. Sc. in Environment Management programme offered by the Department of Environmental Science under the School of Environmental Science and Management of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), has recently been chosen as a "Florida Earth Young Scholar". Currently she is a Ph.D fellow at Water Governance Chair group in UNESCO - IHE Institute of Water Education. Her role as a Florida Earth Young Scholar is to act as a think tank on water related issues and problems. Shahnoor is affiliated with the Department of Geography, Planning and International Development Studies of the University of Amsterdam under a joint doctorate programme. Her research explores what participatory planning tools do in strategic delta planning processes with focus on Bangladesh, Netherlands and Vietnam. She is also a former Lecturer of the Department of Environmental Science, of IUB.


NUB holds  Pedagogy and  Metacognitive Techniques and Tools" workshop

A 3-day long workshop entitled "Pedagogy and Metacognitive Techniques and Tools" was held at BIIS hall Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) by IQAC of the university.

As chief guest in the workshop Prof. Dr A.Y.M. Abdullah, Chairman, NUB Trust said a nation can progress through quality education and research. Zillur Rahman, Additional Director of IQAC, NUB moderated the workshop while K. Ahmed Alam, Associate Professor & Head, Department of English conducted different sessions.

The VC (Acting) of NUB, Prof. Dr. A.W. M. Abdul Huq, Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Anwarul Karim, Treasurer Md. Anwar Hussain, and Registrar Lt. Col. (Retd.) Aqtedar Ahmed Siddiqui were present as special guests. The faculty members from different departments participated in the workshop.

DG of PMO visits Turkish Hope School

The Director General (Admin) of Prime Minister's Office, Kabir Bin Anwar, visited the International Turkish Hope School (ITHS) premises to inspire students of grade 11 and grade 12. The DG shared his knowledge on the history of Bangladesh and its accomplishments, explained the various policies and pioneering initiatives such as the construction of the Padma bridge, the metro rail network, and digitalisation undertaken by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina. Chairman of ITHS, Bedrettin Suata, also attended the event.

The programme concluded with presenting a crest to the DG. 


UAP holds convention on education 

Bangladesh Society for Total Quality Management (BSTQM) and University of Asia Pacific (UAP) jointly organised the 9th National Annual Quality Convention on Education (NAQCE) on October 15, 2016 at UAP Plaza, Green Road, Dhaka.

Prof. Dr. Abdul Matin Patwari, Professor Emeritus, former VC, UAP & BUET was the chief guest of inaugural session and Prof. Dr. M. R. Kabir, Convener of 9th NAQCE welcomed the invited guests in the convention. The theme was "Student Quality Control Circle (SQCC) for Developing Total Quality Person". 

Asaduzzaman Khan, MP, Minister of Home Affairs was the chief guest for the closing session and distributed prizes among the winners while Qayum Reza Chowdhury, Chairman, BOT, UAP, A M M Khairul Bashar, President, BSTQM and Prof. Dr. M. R. Kabir, Pro-VC, UAP were present.
