IDP organises "STUDY IN AUSTRALIA" event
IDP Education's "Study in Australia" event was held on August 12-13 at the Dhaka Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel. The Australian Trade Commission at the Australian High Commission supported the IDP event.
Ravi Chandran, Country Manager of IDP (Dhaka), Minhaz Chowdhury, Country Director and Mostafizur Rahman, Business Development Manager of Australian Trade Commission were present during the inauguration of the event on August 12, 2015.
Representatives of the leading Australian universities and institutions met with interested students and advised on admissions to universities in Australia.
DIU hosts reception for SmartLink Erasmus scholarship winners
Daffodil International University (DIU) accorded a grand reception to the SmartLink Eramus Scholarship winners under the European Union programme for education, training, youth and sport on August 10, 2015 at DIU Auditorium. Jürgen Heimann, Minister Counsellor (Human & Social Development) and Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh was present in the reception programme as the chief guest while Prof. Dr. Yousuf M. Islam, VC, DIU was present as special guest. Rafael Sanchez Carmona, Programme Manager, Human and Social Development, EU Bangladesh was present as the guest of honour. Prof. Dr. M. Golam Rahman, DIU presided over the programme. The function was also addressed by Emeritus Professor Dr. Aminul Islam; Emeritus Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman; Prof. Dr. S. M. Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Dean, FSIT; Prof. Dr. Golam Maola Chowdhury, Controller of Examinations; Mohammed Emran Hossain, Director (Administration) and Prof. Dr. Syed Akter Hossain, Head, Department of CSE & Team leader Smartlink.
Five students and faculty members of DIU obtained the scholarships given among the students and faculty members of different universities of Bangladesh. The scholarship winners are Jerin Nasrin Tumpa (undergraduate), Ashraful Alam Raj (undergraduate), Marzan Tasnim Oishee (undergraduate), Md. Mahamudul Hassan (PhD) and Dr. Sheikh Rashed Haider (academic).
Jürgen Heimann highly appreciated the movements of mobility from DIU under the strong guidance of Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, BOT. He expressed hope that the SmartLink project with the coordinator Prof. Keshav Dahal of the University of the West of Scotland (UWS), UK and the team leader Smartlink Prof. Syed Akter Hossain will definitely extend further EU cooperation for the future Erasmus+ projects. The programme manager Rafael Sanchez Carmona gave the presentation on Erasmus Projects.
Deans of different faculties and heads of the departments, faculty members and large number of students spontaneously attended the programme.
Inauguration workshop on the establishment of IQAC at SEU
Inauguration workshop on the establishment of Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) was held at Southeast University (SEU) on August 6, 2015. Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of SEU organised this workshop where Head of Quality Assurance Unit of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) under UGC Prof. Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed was present as chief guest. Quality Assurance Specialist of HEQEP Prof. Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary and Senior Operations Officer of World Bank Dr. Md. Mokhlesur Rahman were present at the program as special guests, while Member of Southeast University Trust M. Kamaluddin Chowdhury was present as guest of honour. VC of SEU Prof. Anwar Hossain chaired the programme, while Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury delivered vote of thanks and Director of IQAC at SEU Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Hakim delivered the welcome address.
Considering quality assurance as a continuous process, speakers at the workshop opined that IQAC would enhance the capacity of private universities in Bangladesh in case of providing quality education. Prof. Anwar Hossain said that SEU had introduced its Internal Quality Assurance Cell before the concept was initiated at the national level. He added that HEQEP support would further strengthen SEU's effort to enhance quality of education.
Intra-university debating at ASAUB
Final round of the Intra-University debating competition of ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB) was held at university premises on August 11, 2015. Debate Club of ASAUB organised this weeklong competition. All the departments of ASAUB participated in the event using logic and strategic argument. Dept. of Law clinched the championship and Dept. of Applied Sociology was the runners-up.
Deputy Registrar of ASA University Bangladesh, Mohammad Masudur Rahman moderated the programme. Sohrab Hasan, Joint Editor of Daily Prothom Alo; Ziaur Rahman Chowdhury, Coordinator, Prothom Alo Debate Team; Iqbal Hasan, former General Secretary, Dhaka University Debating Society (DUDS) and Ahmed Reza, Staff Reporter, Jamuna TV were present as the members of the Jury Board of the final competition.
Prof. Dr. Dalem Ch. Barman, VC of ASAUB distributed prizes among the winners as the chief guest of the programme. Prof. Md. Muinuddin Khan, Adviser of ASAUB and Md. Khalequzzaman, Registrar of ASAUB delivered their welcome speech to the debaters. Prof. Dr. Iqbal Hossain delivered the vote of thanks in the programme.
Dean and Chairmen from different faculties and departments, students and teachers from different departments, officials of ASAUB were present in the final round ASAUB Intra-University debate competition.
Seminar on "Molecular Chaperones, Ionizing Radiation and Cancer" at BRACU
The Department of Pharmacy, BRAC University organised a seminar on the August 12, 2015 at the BRAC University Auditorium. The seminar was on the developments in the area of cancer research, "Molecular Chaperones, Ionizing Radiation and Cancer" conducted by Dr. Ayesha Murshid, Instructor, Department of Radiation Oncology, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Ayesha Murshid is a renowned personality in the society of research. She completed her Masters in Biochemistry from Dhaka University and joined Ciba Geigy (currently Novartis) where she worked for two years. Later she did another Masters in Microbiology (Long Island University, NY, USA) where she worked as an adjunct lecturer. After that Dr. Ayesha completed her PhD in Cell Biology from McGill University, Canada in 2008 from John Presley's lab. Later she joined Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (Harvard Medical School) as a post-doctoral research fellow in Dr. Stuart Calderwood's Lab where she characterised "Extracellular Heat Shock Protein Receptors". She was promoted to Instructor (Junior Faculty) at Harvard Medical School in 2010. Currently she is working on Extracellular Heat Shock protein and their roles in diseases. Her excellent contributions lead her to achieving Harvard Internal Grants. The Department of Pharmacy is looking forward to organise more seminars in future which will open arena for collaborative research and will create positive learning atmosphere for the students.
Civil Engineering Festival at UAP
A day long "Civil Engineering Festival" was held at the Department of Civil Engineering (CE) of University of Asia Pacific (UAP) on August 8, 2015.
Abdullah Abu Sayeed, Chairman of Bishwa Sahitya Kendro was present as chief guest. In his remarks, Abu Sayeed said, "The first priority of a student is to study and then engage in extra-curricular activities." He also admired the innovative activities of the students at the festival.
The day long festival included debate competition, pre-schooling children's participation, project and poster presentation, photo exhibition and cultural programme. Five different clubs including the Environmental and Disaster Management Club, Cultural Club, Arts and Photography Club, Math Club and Film Club of CE Department participated at the programme with their own projects and stalls. Short films produced by the students of the department were also shown.
Later, Dr. Alamgir Habib, Head, and Dr. Iftekhar Anam, faculty member, distributed prizes among the winners of the various competitions.
