DIU launches humanoid robot "Dbot"

The launching ceremony of humanoid robot "Dbot" developed by Md. Hafizul Imran, a research associate, Software Engineering Department was held today on September 25, 2016 at DIU Auditorium. Jishnu Prasanna Mukherjee, the First Secretary (Education), High Commission of India, Dhaka, Bangladesh graced the launching ceremony as the chief guest. Prof. Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, VC of Daffodil International University (DIU) presided over the programme. The programme was attended by Prof. Dr. S.M. Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Pro- VC, Hamidul Haque Khan, Treasurer, Prof. Dr. Engr. A K M Fazlul Hoque, Registrar and Dr. Touhid Bhuiyan, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Software Engineering of DIU. 

The aim of this robot is to help in the education sector, especially young children learning numbers and alphabets. Along with many other features this human shaped robot can help to learn and it can interact with users. Dbot can follow instructions in native language besides English.

 

Orientation Programme of Fall Semester 2016 at SEU

Fresher's Reception and Orientation Programme of Fall Semester 2016 was held at Southeast University (SEU) on September 24, 2016 at its permanent campus in Tejgaon, Dhaka. 

Registrar of SEU Maj. Gen. Kazi Fakhruddin Ahmed, SPP, PSC (Retd.) welcomed newly enrolled students, while VC of SEU Prof. Dr. A.F.M. Mafizul Islam chaired the session. 

The programme was attended by the Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Benazir Ahmed, BPM (Bar) as chief guest. He told the students that they should contribute in the advancement of the family, country and community. Pro-VC of SEU Prof. Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury said teachers, students and guardians to work together against militancy and terrorism. 

Dean (Acting) of School of Science & Engineering Prof. Syed Fakhrul Hassan and Dean (Acting) School of Arts & Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Hakim introduced their respective schools to the students. Among others, Chief Coordinator of BOT, SEU Trust Wing Commander AHM Mostafa Morshed (Retd.), Chairs of different Departments, distinguished guests, senior academicians, faculty members, officials of SEU, newly enrolled students and their guardians were present at the programme.

 

NSU celebrates "World Pharmacists Day"

On September 25, 2016, the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, North South University (NSU), celebrated "World Pharmacists Day 2016". The theme for this year was "Pharmacists: Caring for You" in line with FIP President Dr. Carmen Peña's message that pharmacists' role in the public health care sector has advanced from just being the provider of medicines to that of care. 

To express the significance of this day, a colourful rally was held in the NSU campus by the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, in association with North South University Pharmaceutical Club. Much to the delight of the participants, special guest for the event, Md. Shajahan, Member of the BOT, graced the event with his presence. Prof. Dr. Atiqul Islam, VC of NSU inaugurated the rally as chief guest and Prof. Dr. G U Ahsan, Dean, School of Health and Life Sciences, NSU was the special guest. Dr. Hasan Mahmud Reza, Chairman of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences orchestrated the event.

At the end of the rally, each student left with a heightened sense of contribution and achievements of pharmacists worldwide. 

 

IUB student wins Quiz Competition at Esonance

Summit Sayem, a student from the Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE) Department of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) won the 1st prize in Quiz Competition at the inter-university competition Esonance 2016 held at Islamic University of Technology (IUT) recently. More than 700 students from various institutions across Bangladesh including BUET, DU, BRACU, AIUB, EWU, AUST, RUET and IUT participated in the daylong event.

Topics covered in the Quiz Competition were Electrical and Electronics, Computer Science, ICT, Mathematics, Physics, General Science, General Knowledge and IQ. Top 8 scorers were selected for the final round in order to be designated as the Champion, 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up in the competition. From among the 8 finalists, Summit scored the highest points and became champion by beating contestants from BUET, IUT and MIST.

Summit Sayem also grabbed the 2nd runner-up title in MATLAB Coding Challenge held at the same event. Two teams from IUB also demonstrated excellent performance and fierce competition in RoboRace and Project Showcasing events.
