ULAB become runners-up in Red Bull Campus Cricket World Finals 2016

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) became runners up of the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Finals 2016. Sri Lanka's Business Management School was crowned Red Bull Campus Cricket champions beating ULAB by 24 runs at the Galle International Stadium on September 11.

ULAB, reigning Twenty20 private university champion of Bangladesh, were invited by the tournament organisers as they previously participated in the same tournament twice in Sri Lanka and England. This is the third time ULAB took part in the Red Bull Campus Cricket.

Eight cricket playing nations participated this year to battle it out for the World Championship: ULAB, Bangladesh, Business Management School, Sri Lanka, University of Sydney, Australia, Loughborough University, England, Marathwada Mitra Mandal College of Commerce, India, University of Central Punjab, Pakistan, Assupol TuksCricket, University of Pretoria, South Africa, and Heriot-Watt University Dubai, UAE. Orientation programme and FYAT Day at BRACU 

BRAC University "Freshman Orientation - Fall 2016" for the newly admitted students of Fall 2016 semester took place at the BRAC University main campus at Mohakhali on August 30, 2016. 

Prof. A.A. Ziauddin Ahmad, Chairperson, Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of BRACU addressed the programme. Shahed Ehsan Siddique, a BRACU Alumnus currently working in Standard Chartered Bank shared his wonderful reflection on BRACU life. 

Vice Chancellor Prof. Syed Saad Andaleeb, Ph.D., in his speech congratulated the new students for being selected in BRACU, one the top ranked universities of Bangladesh. The VC told that BRACU aims to produce graduates who are not only knowledgeable but also conscious, conscientious, ethical, contributing to the society, humane and filled with empathy. The VC informed the studetns that with existing international standard curriculum, highly qualified teachers, resourceful digital library, international collaborations and industry partnerships, the university will have a state of the art permanent campus by 2019. 

As a part of the Freshman Orientation programme, new students met with their First Year Advising Team (FYAT) on August 31, 2016. Each FYAT group comprises of a faculty adviser and a student peer mentor who provide individual and group advising to support new students. Ivan Shafaat Bari, Director of the Office of Student Affairs, BRAC University briefed students on academic expectations, their learning options and advising process at BRACU.

 

Seminar on anti-terrorism at BUFT

BGMEA University of Fashion &Technology (BUFT) organised a seminar on anti-terrorism on September 3, 2016 in the BUFT auditorium as per instruction of the government and UGC. 

Muzaffar U. Siddique, Founder Chairman, BOT, BUFT, was present as the chief guest. Reaz-Bin-Mahmood, Member, BOT and former Vice President (Finance) of BGMEA and Salahuddin Ahmed, Member, BOT, were present as the special guests. 

The programme was chaired by Prof. Dr. Nizamuddin Ahmed, VC of BUFT. Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Pro-VC and Convener of Anti-Terrorism Monitoring Cell of BUFT delivered the welcome speech.

Registrar A N M Rafiqul Alam, all heads of the academic and administrative departments, faculty members, officials, students and print media personnel were present at the event.

 

Pharmacy Department organises seminar at SEU 

Pharmacy Department of Southeast University (SEU) organised a seminar on "Improving Oral Bioavailability from Lipid-based formulations: Drug Solubilization, Dispersion & Digestion" on September 6, 2016 at Seminar Hall, Banani, Dhaka. 

Prof. Syed Fakhrul Hassan, Dean (Acting), School of Science and Engineering delivered the welcome speech while Prof. Dr. AFM Mafizul Islam, VC presided over the programme. Ishtiaq Ahmad, President, Pharmacy Graduates' Association (PGA), Bangladesh was present as chief guest. Dr. Kazi Mohsin, Associate Professor, Dept. of Pharmaceutics, King Saud University, Saudi Arabia was present as keynote speaker.

Registrar of SEU Maj. Gen. Kazi Fakhruddin Ahmed, SPP, psc (Retd.), faculties, students, officers of the Department of Pharmacy also attended the ceremony.

Mubashar Ali Gold Medal Award 2016 at WUB

"Mubashar Ali Gold Medal Award 2016" ceremony was held at the auditorium of World University of Bangladesh (WUB) on September 8, 2016. The ceremony was presided over by the VC, Prof. Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury. This year, the awardees were Prof. Anisuzzaman, renowned researcher, educationist and litterateur and Prof. Abdul Mannan, Chairman, UGC. Dr. Moshiur Rahman, Economic Affairs Advisor to the Prime Minister was present as the chief guest. Prof Dr. Eaysmin Ara Lekha, Pro-VC, Uttara University and Dr. Abdul Wahab, Ex-Director, Bangla Academy were present on this occasion as guests of honour. Deans of faculties, Heads of departments, Registrar, Proctor, teachers and students of WUB were also present at the programme.
