AIUB Champions League 2016 football tournament comes to an end 

The final match of the 4-days long football tournament AIUB Champions League (ACL) 2016 of American International University Bangladesh was held in the Banani Club Ground at Dhaka on August 14, 2016. 

In total, 16 teams from different departments (both undergraduate and graduate students) and two faculty members and officials' teams participated in the tournament. In the final match team Chelsea (CSE Department) beat team Arsenal (BBA Department) 5-4 in penalties and became champions of the tournament. Player of team Real Madrid (Officers) team, Setu became the highest scorer of the tournament and Sabit became the Man of the Final from the champion team. 

Vice President, Academic Prof. Dr. Tafazzal Hossain, Director (Students Affairs) Manzur H. Khan, Director (FSIT) Mashiour Rahman, Head of Undergraduate program Dr. Dip Nandi and Head of Graduate program Dr. Tabin Hasan were present during the final match. A large number of students, faculty members, officials and local spectators were at the final match. The media partner of this tournament was The Daily Observer.

Seminar on "Coastal Bangladesh in a Changing Climate" at IUB

The School of Environmental Science and Management (SESM) and International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) jointly organised a seminar on "Coastal Bangladesh in a Changing Climate" on August 23, 2016 at IUB campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. Dr. Susmita Dasgupta, Lead Environmental Economist, Environment and Energy Team of the Development Research Group of The World Bank was the keynote speaker in the seminar. 

Dr. Dasgupta analysed health hazards of pollution, poverty-environment nexus, setting priorities in pollution control, deforestation, biodiversity loss, impacts of climate change on coastal zones and climate extremes, adaptation to climate change, cost effective regulations, monitoring and enforcement of regulations.

There was a lively question-answer session that engaged the members of the faculty and IUB students who were present in seminar. 

Appointment of Prof. Islam as new VC of SEU

President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and Chancellor Md. Abdul Hamid has appointed Prof. Dr. A.F.M. Mafizul Islam as Vice Chancellor of Southeast University.

Prior to his appointment as the VC, Prof. Islam acted as a professor of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka, Department of Economics, Chittagong University and the Institute of Bangladesh Studies, Rajshahi University.

He has many research publications in recognised journals of international repute at home and abroad. Prof. Islam earned his Ph.D. in Economics in 1989 from the University of Dhaka, financed by the World Bank.

Prof. Abdullah appointed the new VC of NUBTK

President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and Chancellor Md. Abdul Hamid has recently appointed Dr. Abu Yousuf Md. Abdullah, renowned professor of IBA - DU, as Vice Chancellor of Northern University of Business and Technology Khulna for four years.

Prof. Abdullah is a well known researcher and academician of international business. He has published more than 25 articles in recognised and peer reviewed national and international journals and 4 books on the subject.  

He was a student of Jhenidah Cadet College. He completed his graduation from IBA in the University of Dhaka. Later he attended Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration, Finland and University of Texas at Austin, USA for his higher education. Very recently he earned his Post Doctoral Fellowship from the University of Malaysia Perlis. 

Prof. Abdullah is outstandingly contributing to the development of higher education in Bangladesh. He is also a benevolent founder and chief patron of various educational institutions.

ULAB to hold inauguration  and workshop of IQAC

The inception workshop on "Quality Assurance in Higher Education" and the inauguration of Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) will be held on September 5, 2016 at the ULAB Auditorium, Dhanmondi. Chairman of University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC), Prof. Abdul Mannan will grace the occasion as the chief guest. Prof. Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Head, Quality Assurance Unit, UGC, Quality Assurance Specialist of UGC Prof. Dr.  M. Abul Kashem, and Prof. Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary will be present as guests of honour and keynote speakers.

ULAB VC Prof. Imran Rahman will deliver the welcome address and ULAB IQAC Director Prof. Jude William Genilo will narrate the milestones achieved so far in quality assurance work at the university.  After the workshop, the newly renovated IQAC office will be inaugurated along with the ULAB IQAC website. Quality Assurance Committee (QAC) members, Self Assessment Committee (SAC) members, Deans and Department Heads, Senior Faculty, IQAC staff and other invited guests will be included as event participants.
