Seminar on public speaking at Stamford
Recently Consus Consultancy in collaboration with Stamford University Bangladesh conducted a seminar on "Public Speaking: Persuasive Communications". The seminar was conducted by Faria Afzal, Chief Executive Officer, Crimson Consultancy. Students of Stamford University from Siddeswari campus attended the workshop. They took part in activities that will enhance their communicational skills and assist in developing their professional attitude.
Certificate course on effluent treatment plant at IUBAT
Department of Civil Engineering under College of the Engineering and Technology (CEAT), International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) launched a certificate course on "Operation and Maintenance of Effluent Treatment Plant" on August 6, 2016 at IUBAT University Auditorium with cooperation of German Development Corporation's (GIZ) project of Promotion of Social and Environmental Standards in the industry (PSES).
Prof. Mahmuda Khanum, VC (Acting), IUBAT, graced the inauguration ceremony as chief guest and Dr. Jürgen Hannak, Team Leader – Environment Component, GIZ-PSES, as special guest.
Prof. Dr. Md. Monirul Islam, Chair, College of Engineering and Technology presided over the occasion. Dr. Md. Tarekh Rasul, Associate Professor, delivered the welcome speech, Engr. Mohammad Abu Hashnat Badsha conducted the programme and Sanjoy Kumar Bhowmik delivered the vote of thanks on the occasion. Chair, director, coordinator, officers, staff, students of the university, research persons and other guests were present on the inauguration ceremony.
Corporate Gladiators 2016 at UIU
On July 30, 2016 the first edition of Corporate Gladiator was successfully organised by the United International University Business Club (UIUBC) on the premises of UIU. It was an event with three different segments where 56 teams from 25 universities from all over the country participated. The competition consisted of 2 workshops followed by 3 rounds where students were required to solve different business problems and present their solutions.
After the first round was held where participants were required to solve a business case and present their solutions, the best 24 teams were selected. On the second round they were given topics on different business issues and again presented solutions. Among those 24 teams top 8 teams moved to the final round. In the final round the teams were required to generate an idea of business which can solve any problem of Bangladesh. Team Frisbee from North South University became champions of Corporate Gladiators 2016. Team Tribhooj from United International University and Team XXL from Islamic University of Technology were the first and second runners-up. The champions received 50000 taka as their prize money. The first and second runners up received 30000 and 20000 taka respectively.
Talk on ethics in journalism at AIUB
"MMC Dialogue: Ethics in Journalism" was held on August 2, 2016 at Media Studio of AIUB under the Department of Media and Mass Communication (MMC). The editor of the Bengali newspaper Daily Bhorer Kagaj, Shaymal Dutta was present as the keynote speaker. The programme began with a speech by Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The advisor of the Department of Media and Mass Communication, Dr. AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan, chaired the programme.
The editor also mentioned that ethics in journalism is a cardinal law to follow. But unfortunately as the industry does not have enough skilled journalists, ethical issues are not addressed properly. He emphasised that if the journalism and media studies departments could produce a number of skilled students in the industry will be able to meet the ethical standard. Afroja Shoma, lecturer of the MMC Department acted as the coordinator of the programme. Other faculties, officials and students of AIUB were also present.
