NSU launches "Road to Excellence"

North South University, the first private university in the country launched its book "Road to Excellence" at the Bashundhara campus on June 16, 2016. Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman, academic, economist and former member of the caretaker government unveiled the book as the chief guest. M.A. Kashem, Chairman, BOT, attended the programme as the special guest. Prof. Atiqul Islam presided over the ceremony. Prof. Sharif Uddin Ahmed and Dr. Mostafizur Rahman, editors of the book, Prof. Abdur Rob Khan, Chairman, Department of Political Science and Sociology, NSU delivered notes on the book. Deans of four Schools of NSU, professors, academic and administrative heads of the university were present at the ceremony.

AIUB and Autonomous  University of Guadalajara sign MoU

In the presence of an international community of university presidents, American International University – Bangladesh (AIUB) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Autonomous University of Guadalajara (UAG), the first private university in Mexico. On May 21, 2016, AIUB and UAG agreed on opening the platform for joint cooperation in areas of research, academic development, and exchange of staff and students, during the IAUP Semi-Annual Meeting 2016 held in Madrid, Spain. The signing ceremony was performed by Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, the VC of AIUB and Lic. Antonio Leaño Reyes, the President of UAG. Both expressed their eager interest in actualising the numerous opportunities that this agreement opens up for the student and staff of both institutions, looking forward to getting to work on some of the prospective projects already discussed between the two. 

SEU receives award from Bangladesh Red Crescent Society

Southeast University (SEU) was awarded by Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) as one of the best blood donor organisations. The award was handed over at a programme organised by BDRCS on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day 2016 held at the auditorium of Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College on June 14, 2016. Dean (Acting), School of Science & Engineering of SEU Prof. Syed Fakhrul Hassan received the award from the Treasurer of BDRCS Adv. Tauhidur Rahman, while among others, Deputy Registrar (Academic) of SEU Md. Saiful Alam (Munir) and Associate Professors of the Department of Textile Engineering Dr. Arun Kanti Guha and Dr. ANM Ahmed Ullah were present. 

World Blood Donor Day was observed on June 14, 2016 with the theme "Blood Connects US All".

Stamford University organises literary colloquium and drama show

StrayBird, the literary and cultural forum of the Department of English organised a literary colloquium and drama show titled "Shakespeare, Rabindranath and Bangla Drama" on May 30, 2016  at Siddheswari campus to celebrate the birth anniversary of Shakespeare and Rabindranath Tagore. The keynote speaker was Sudip Chakrabarti, Chairman, Department of Theatre and Performance Studies, University of Dhaka.

Prof. A.K.M. Waliul Islam, PhD, the acting Chairman of the Department of English inaugurated the programme and shared his opinion regarding the theme. Dr. M. Feroze Ahmed, VC of Stamford University Bangladesh, was also present.

The keynote speaker Sudip Chakrabarti delivered his speech which focused on the history of Bangla drama after the independence of Bangladesh, the status and the constraints of staging Shakespearean drama and the drama of Rabindranath and the ways to overcome those barriers. The literary colloquium was followed by a lively cultural event containing music, dance and drama performed by the students of Department of English. The performance of the students won the contentment of the audience and achieved huge appreciation.
