Workshop on "Excellence in Pedagogy" held at UIU

A workshop on "Excellence in Pedagogy" was held at the United International University (UIU). The workshop was organised by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of UIU. 

Prof. Dr. M. Omar Rahman, VC of the Independent University of Bangladesh (IUB) was the chief guest who spoke on the Active Student Learning and Instructional Design at the second half of the workshop. Prof. Dr. M. Rezwan Khan, VC of the UIU spoke in the first session on the determinants of a good teacher. Dr. Rezwan delineated the salient features of a good teacher. 

Prof. M. Omar Rahman in his deliberation focused on three aspects that help to bring the maximum potentialities of a student. He emphasised on the inspirational role of a teacher in shaping a positive outlook towards learning. The other two points he brought to limelight are to enable the students to learn how to reduce the uncertainty in the academic arena of the students and the approach of teaching that deals not with the contents but create an enabling environment so that learning become a lifelong process to students. 

The workshop was attended by the UIU faculty members of both the School of Science and Engineering and the School of Business and Economics.

BRACU celebrates Summer Sault Revive 2016 

On May 29, 2016, BRAC University Business Club (BIZ BEE) successfully organised the club fair for summer semester of 2016. The event was titled "Summer Sault Revive 2016" portraying the theme of the summer season. All the clubs of BRACU welcomed the freshers of summer 2016 semester. 

The fair was inaugurated by the chief guest, Dr. Hafiz G. A. Siddiqi, Professor Emeritus, BRAC Business School. Ivan Shafat Bari, Director of Office of Co-Curricular Activities, was the special guest. Dr. Siddiqi delivered a speech where he acknowledged BRACU for performing brilliantly at prioritising on extracurricular activities for the immense welfare of the students. 

The enthusiastic crowd of overjoyed students entered the cafeteria and auditorium to sign up for their preferred clubs. The main attraction of this programme was renowned musician Arnob's performance in the evening.

On the second day of the club fair, BRAC University Film Club scheduled a film show for the students. This two-day event of club fair was powered by its Youth Engagement Partner The Daily Star, TV media partner Shomoy TV, radio partner Dhaka FM and online news partner Student BD24 and Purbo-Poshchim.

 

Inauguration of CSE FEST 2016 at SEU

Inauguration ceremony of three-day long CSE FEST 2016 was held at Southeast University (SEU) on June 2, 2016 at the Seminar Hall. Department of Computer Science & Engineering organised this festival. Computer Scientist and Professor of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at BUET, Dr. M. Kaykobad was present at the inaugural session as chief guest, while VC of SEU Prof. Anwar Hossain was the chair. Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury was present as special guest. Asst. Professor & Chairman (Acting) of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering Shahriar Manzoor delivered the welcome address. HR Manager of Reve Systems Md. Ashraful Islam Bhuiyan also addressed at the session.

Different events like Project Showcasing, Programming Contest, Workshop, Gaming Contest, Math Olympiad, Alumni Talk Session and Poster Presentation were included in this three-day long festival. The closing and award giving ceremony of this festival was held on June 4, 2016.

 

EU holds orientation for summer 2016 

The orientation ceremonies for the students of undergraduate programmes of the summer semester of Eastern University (EU) were held on June 4, 2016 in the University Plaza at Dhanmondi. Shameem Ahsan, President, Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Service (BASIS) graced the occasion as the chief guest in the programme while Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab, VC of EU presided over the programme. Among others Prof. Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Pro-VC, Deans, Advisors, Chairpersons, Registrar, teachers, officials and students were present in the programme.

 

Seminar on culinary science and hotel management at WUB

Department of Tourism & Hospitality Management, World University of Bangladesh organised a seminar in association with Tony Khan Culinary Institute and Hotel Management on "Career Planning on Culinary Science and Hotel Management" on June 4, 2016 at the auditorium of the university. The ceremony was graced by the Pro-VC of the University, Prof. Dr. M. Nurul Islam as the chief guest while Tony Khan, President, Tony Khan Culinary Institute and Hotel Management was the guest of honour. Prof. Dr. Abdul Awal Khan, Dean, Faculty of Business Studies was present as special guest. Prof. Md. Moqbul Hossain, Head, Department of Tourism & Hospitality Management presided over the session. Faculty members and students were also present in this seminar.

 

IUBAT holds Summer Semester 2016 orientation programmes

The 72nd orientation of new students of Summer Semester 2016, International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) was held on May 29 - June 5, 2016 at the campus of the university. 

Presiding over the programme Prof. Dr M A Hannan, Registrar of IUBAT University underscored the need of massive manpower development to ensure quality assurance in higher education for facilitating the socio-economic growth and development.

The week-long orientation programme proceeded in separate sessions for the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Department of Economics, College of Nursing, College of Agricultural Sciences, Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Computer Science and Engineering,  Department of Mechanical Engineering and Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering  under College of Engineering and Technology. The College of Business Administration arranged their orientation programme on the evening. The evening orientation was followed by a cultural gala.

 

World Environment Day 2016 seminar at NSU

On the occasion of World Environment Day, Department of Environmental Science and Management (DESM) of North South University (NSU) arranged a seminar on "Environment, Biodiversity, Forest and Wildlife Conservation and Protection" conjointly with Management and the Department of Environment (DoE) under the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) at NSU premises. Dr. Kamal Uddin Ahmad, Secretary, Ministry of Environment & Forests, and Md. Raisul Alam Mondal, Director General, Department of Environment was the chief guest and special guest respectively. They shared their observations on current environmental disasters and reasons behind these. They urged all attendees in the seminar to act to save Bangladesh's wildlife from their individual portion. Prof. Atiqul Islam, VC, NSU chaired the seminar. Dr. G. U. Ahsan, Dean, School of Health and Life Sciences, NSU presided over the event, along with Dr. Md. Jakariya, Chair, DESM, NSU.

The aim of the event was to raise environmental awareness about topics related to the theme of this year's World Environment Day 2016, "Zero Tolerance for Illegal Wildlife Trade", amongst faculty members, young students and several other environment enthusiasts of the university.
