ULAB hosts "Proud to be a ULABian" for the freshers
University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) finished its Summer Freshers' orientation by hosting "Proud to be a ULABian" in Dhanmondi on May 26, 2016. It was a unique and interactive talk show where ULAB alumni shared their university memories, experiences and how they reached their respective positions. They also shared how they are implementing the liberal arts concept in their professional life.
Rownak Afza, Communications Manager of Comfort Group, Tamzidul Islam Kanon, Asst. Manager of Marketing & Sales of Jamuna Television, Tamanna Shanto, Brand Executive of Radio Shadhin, Antara Islam, National Shooter, Md. Ariful Islam, Officer, Marketing of ULAB Communications and Darshan Chakma, Photojournalist of The Daily Star inspired the young freshers of different departments where Ariful Hoque, Deputy Manager of ULAB Communications welcome everyone and moderated the session.
UIU organises Summer Orientation Programme 2016
United International University (UIU) organised a two-day long orientation programme held for the newly admitted students of Summer 2016 trimester at the UIU Auditorium.
UIU VC Prof. Dr. M. Rezwan Khan presided over the ceremonies while Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, Dean, School of Business & Economics, Prof. Dr. Md. Musa, Dean, School of Science and Engineering Prof. Dr. SM Lutful Kabir, Head, Dept. of Economics, Prof. Dr. Amirul Islam Chowdhury, MBA Programme Coordinator, Dr. Badruzza Miya, BBA Programme Director, Dr. Joarder Md. Hasanur Raihan, EEE Head, Prof. Dr. Md. Raqibul Mostafa, CSE Head, Dr. Salekul Islam, Registrar Prof. A.S.M.Salahuddin, spoke at the programme. Treasurer, heads of different departments, teachers, guardians, students and the invited guests were present.
EWU holds international conference on business research
The Department of Business Administration, East West University (EWU) arranged the second international conference on Business Research in May 27-28, 2016. This conference was sponsored by the World Bank's Higher Education and Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP). The keynote speaker of the ceremony was Prof. Zahirul Hoque, Head, Department of Accounting, La Trobe University, Australia.
Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson, BOT,EWU and former Governor, Bangladesh Bank was the chief guest of the conference. Prof. Dr. MM Shahidul Hassan, VC of EWU graced the conference as the special guest. Dr. Anup Chowdhury, Chairperson, BBA Department of EWU was the guest of honour. Prof Tanbir Ahmed Chowdhury, Dean, Faculty of Business and Economics and Convenor, of the conference, chaired the programme.
The programme was attended by near about 100 participants from 31 different institutions from home and abroad. More than 60 research papers was presented at this conference.
AIUB officials attend IUAP Semi-Annual Meeting 2016
As a member of the International Association of Universities Presidents (IAUP), the American International University – Bangladesh participated in the IAUP Semi-Annual Meeting 2016, held from the May 19-21, 2016 at the University of Alcala in Madrid, Spain.
The 3-day programme was attended by the VC, Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, along with the Chairman and Vice President of International Affairs & Public Relations, Ishtiaque Abedin, and the Special Assistant of the Vice Chancellor's Office and the Office of Student Affairs, Shama Islam. The first day converged with business meetings of the Executive Committee and Council of Senior Advisors for the Commission's Report, followed by a guided tour of the old university and the city of Madrid. The day was concluded with a gala dinner hosted by the UAH.
Dr. Lamagna chaired a session on the sustainability initiatives undertaken by AIUB and Bangladesh as a whole. She presented the various practices and policies in AIUB that align with the idea of sustainable development in higher education, covering vast areas such as curriculum, research, study tours/workshops, infrastructure and collaborations. The Board of Directors conducted a meeting which led to the signing of MoUs between several participating Universities. AIUB signed MoUs for collaborating with both UAH and the University of Guadalajara.
A2 Accounting FLASHBACK by CIMA Bangladesh
CIMA Bangladesh organised the event "A2 Accounting FLASHBACK" for May 2016 A Level candidates in collaboration with Vertical Horizon on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at AMM Convention Center, Dhanmondi. Tawsif Alam Khan, Accounting Course Leader & Managing Director, Vertical Horizon was the instructor for the day-long accounting revision session. Zareef Tamanna Matin, Country Manager, CIMA Bangladesh and Hasan Shams Ahmed, Partner & Consultant, FTMC also conducted brief sessions on CIMA Qualification and the career prospect of studying CIMA during the event.
Programme on mental health at NSU
With a slogan "No health without mental health", an orientation programme on mental health was held on May 24, 2016 at North South University (NSU). The programme was organised conjointly by the Proctor's Office and the Student Counseling Center. The objective was to make students familiar with mental health aspects and also in getting solutions from respective mental health professionals. The student counselors highlighted that their office not only served psychologically disturbed students, but also offers services through some prevention and developmental programmes as well by organising workshops on different topics such as stress management, anger, non-violent communication, drug management, and self confidence - just to name a few.
Azim Uddin Ahmed, Chairman of Disciplinary Committee and BOT Member, NSU, and Prof. Atiqul Islam, VC, NSU attended the programme as chief guest and special guest respectively. Syed Kamrul Islam, Proctor, NSU chaired the session.
IUB holds seminar on gravitational waves
A seminar on "Gravitational Waves: One Hundred Years in the Making" was held on May 25 at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB). Internationally renowned physicist and recipient of Shadhinota Podok, Prof. Quamrul Haider, PhD was the key speaker at the seminar. Dr. Haider is a professor of the Department of Physics and Engineering Physics, Fordham University, USA.
In his presentation, Prof. Haider explained the historical evolution of physics involved in the discovery of gravitational waves over the last 100 years.
Rashed Chowdhury, Chairman, BOT, IUB and Prof. M Omar Rahman, VC, IUB, delivered the welcome remarks. Towhid Samad, Chairman, BOT, Chittagong Independent University, made concluding remarks and gave vote of thanks. At the outset, Dr. Ferdows Zahid, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IUB introduced the key speaker before the audience.
