CYC organises inter-school wall magazine competition
Connecting Youth for Change (CYC) organized "Frame: Inter-School Wall Magazine Competition - Season Two" on May 6, 2016 at Rani Bilasmoni Govt. Boys' High School in Gazipur. The students showcased their research, knowledge and understanding on earthquake preparedness. Hasibur Rahman Hasid, Inspector of Fire Service & Civil Defense in Gazipur and Abul Fazal, Assistant General Manager of Research & Development at BD Foods Limited were present as guests. The Daily Star was the Youth Engagement Partner and BD Foods Limited was the Food & Beverage Partner. CYC is a non-profitable and non-political volunteer youth organisation which is currently working on youth empowerment and fostering positive social change.
BRACU holds orientation for freshers
Orientation programme for newly admitted students in Summer semester took place in BRAC University (BRACU) recently. For the newly admitted students it was a joyful day, as they stepped into a new and important phase of their life. VC of BRACU, Prof. Syed Saad Andaleeb, Ph.D in his inspirational speech informed that BRACU is dedicatedly working to build leaders for the country, who are not only knowledgeable but also ethical, humane, conscious and filled with empathy.
The VC informed the students that BRACU always facilitates meritorious students; the students should set career goals at the beginning of their study programmes and work hard towards their goal. Students should pursue their dreams according to their own potentials, the VC added.
The students are also encouraged to participate in student clubs, as one of the major objective of the clubs is to involve in social causes and make students aware of the social issues. It was also communicated to the students by the VC that BRACU encourages collaboration and innovation to bring in positive impact in the society and the country.
Lastly it was informed that in the first year, FYAT (First Year Advising Team) will be guiding students in case they face any problem or need any special care.
EU celebrates 13th Foundation Day
Eastern University (EU) celebrated its 13th anniversary on May 7, 2016. Having the slogan "A Leader in Quality Education", Eastern University started its journey on April 29, 2003.
The event was entertained by a series of colourful activities. In the morning the programme started with a seminar titled "Role of Private Universities in the Development of Higher Education in Bangladesh: Challenges and Prospects". Abul Khair Chowdhury, Chairman, BOT, EU presided over the session while Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, MP, Speaker, Bangladesh Parliament graced the occasion as the chief guest. Dr. Anisuzzaman, Professor Emeritus, Dhaka University presented the keynote paper. Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab, VC, Prof. Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Pro-VC, Mustafa Jabbar, Creator of Bijoy Bangla Software and entrepreneur delivered their speech on the occasion.
At the event, ambassadors of different countries, members of EU Foundation, faculty members and officials were present. The university has produced 6000 graduates over the last twelve years. Many of them are working in the top positions in different organisations of the country.
BUFT team visits Dutch and German universities
A high power delegation of BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) headed by Muzaffar U. Siddique, founder Chairman of BUFT visited Saxion University of Applied Sciences and Nyenrode Business University of the Netherlands and Hochschule Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences of Germany as the part of ongoing educational collaboration from April 24-28, 2016. On behalf of Saxion University, Mirjam Koster, Director of School of Creative Technology cordially welcomed them. There was a formal meeting session where BUFT team elaborated not only the role of the university in promoting RMG, fashion and textile related education in Bangladesh but also discussed various issues relating to the textile and fashion education in the Netherlands. They focused on joint research initiatives and joint international projects on textile, apparel and fashion, faculty and student exchange programmes, credit transfer, research and training facilities etc.
In the meeting as BUFT members of the BOT, Tipu Munshi, MP, Md. Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin), First VP, FBCCI and Pro-VC of BUFT Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Erna Englen, Team leader & Course Director of Fashion Technologies, Evelyn Eijkelenkamp, Exchange Coordinator/Internationalisation, and Ger Brinks, Lector of Smart Functional Materials were present.
BUFT team also expressed their desire to extend the educational collaboration agreement with Nyenrode Business University of Netherlands. BUFT team signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Hochschule Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences of Germany in terms of mutual interest.
SEU organises workshop on technology in ESL
Department of English at Southeast University (SEU) organised a workshop on "Use of Technology in ESL Classroom" on May 7, 2016 at its Seminar Hall. The workshop was organised in collaboration with the American Center, US Embassy, Dhaka and Bangladesh English Language Teachers Association (BELTA).
VC of SEU Prof. Anwar Hossain inaugurated the workshop. Associate Professor and the Chair of the Department of English, Harunur Rashid Khan delivered the welcome address at the inaugural session. Cultural Affairs Officer of American Embassy, George Mesthos also delivered opening remarks at the session. Among others, Registrar of SEU Maj. Gen. Kazi Fakhruddin Ahmed, SPP, psc (Retd.), Chief Coordinator of BOT, SEU Trust Wing Commander AHM Mostafa Morshed (Retd.) and faculty members of the Department of English were present.
Russell Barczyk, Regional English Language Officer (RELO) at the U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu conducted the workshop through a PowerPoint presentation. Dean (Acting), School of Arts and Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Hakim distributed certificates among participants.
