Seminar on role of ICT in sustainable goals held at UAP
University of Asia Pacific (UAP) organised a seminar on "Role of ICT in Sustainable Development Goals: Indian Experience" at the Business Administration Department on April 24, 2016.
Subimal Bhattacharjee, noted Indian Defence and Cyber Security Expert addressed the session as the keynote speaker while Prof. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, VC, UAP chaired the seminar.
In his remarks, Bhattacharjee discussed the important role ICT played in the growing Indian economy. He said, "Poverty is the biggest obstacle to development. Promoting human resources for any country is the main weapon to achieve sustainable overall development."
Among others, C. M. Shafi Sami, former Advisor, Caretaker Government and Member, BOT, Anhar A. Chowdhury, Vice Chairperson, BOT, UAP, Prof. M. R. Kabir, Pro-VC, heads and some faculty and students were present in the seminar.
Masters of Ideation 2016 held at NSU
The finale of Masters of Ideation 2016 was held on April 18, 2016 at North South University in Bashundhara campus. Team Dexters from North South University (NSU) won the title this year, competing against 54 teams from 15 different universities. The 1st and 2nd runners-up of the competition were Team Potter and Team Pikachu from Institute of Business Administration, Dhaka University (IBA-DU), respectively.
The national phase of the competition was inaugurated with the inter-university workshop on March 18, 2016. Their task was to break the cases provided, prepare presentation slides on it and finally to present their case in front of the judges followed by a question answer session.
The eminent judges of the competition were M Asif Rahman, CEO, AR Communications and Alo Ventures and Muhammad Saimum Hossain, Co-Founder, Geeky Social and Lecturer, FBS, DU.
M. A. Kashem, Chairman, BOT, NSU handed over the prize money along with signature trophy to winning teams as the chief guest in the closing ceremony held in evening at the NSU Plaza Area.
United Group Research Award Ceremony 2016 held at UIU
United Group Research Award Ceremony 2016 was held on April 22, 2016 at United International University Auditorium. Nurul Islam Nahid, MP, Ministry of Education, was present in the occasion as the chief guest. The welcome speech was addressed by Hasan Mahmood Raja, Chairman, United Group; among others Prof. M. Muhibur Rahman, Chairman, Paper Award Evaluation Committee and Prof. Dr. M. Rezwan Khan, VC, United International University spoke at the programme.
The chief guest Nurul Islam Nahid said at the programme that research is the main part of higher education. Research helps create new knowledge and technology that contributes to building a development and knowledge based society. He congratulated the United Group for taking up the noble initiative in promoting research and development activities in Bangladesh by recognising the researchers in the fields of science and technology.
Hasan Mahmood Raja said that United Group wants to create a research friendly platform where potential researchers will be provided all kinds of support in pursuance to their research works. He emphasised on applied research which would directly contribute to the society, economy or any productive sector of the country.
This year 21 papers, published in 2013, have been selected for the award in the field of science and engineering, medical and life science, and agriculture. United Group is committed to continue this award to 40 researchers each year in the future days. An amount of BDT 1,00,000 and a certificate have been distributed for each paper.
Directors of United Group, high officials, VC and Pro-VC of UIU, lead researchers and invited guests were present in the programme.
Discussion on export to China by DIU and BCCCI
Daffodil International University (DIU) and Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCCI) jointly organised a round-table discussion on "Exporting to China: Opportunities and Challenges" on April 23, 2016 at Daffodil International University Auditorium. The purpose of this project is to support the increase of exports of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) from 6 Asian least developed countries (LDCs).
Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, BOT, DIU, Prof. Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, VC, DIU, M. Hamid, Director and Al Mamun Mridha, Joint Secretary, BCCCI were present at the discussion. Amongst the participants the representative of USAID - Trade Facilitation Activity (TFA), Bangladesh Tariff Commission (BTC), Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI), Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute (BFTI), Yunnan Commercial Representative Office in Bangladesh were present at the discussion.
The round-table discussion comprised of sessions like "Idea Cards Presentation" and open discussion where all the participants participated to put their ideas, views and recommendations in addressing challenges and opportunities to export in China.
