NSU celebrates Pahela Baishakh 1423
North South University (NSU) celebrated Pahela Baishakh 1423 this year at its Bashundhara campus with students and faculty members on April 14, 2016, welcoming the Bangla New Year.
The celebrations started with a colourful rally around the campus with multi-coloured festoons, sculptures and art projects, welcoming the new and blessed year and wishing the past evils away. The programme was structured with songs, Baul performances, folk dances and band performances. A traditional fair was organised by NSU Sangskritik Sangathan where traditional items were sold, especially handicrafts and foods.
M. A. Kashem, Chairman, BOT was the chief guest of the event and Prof. Atiqul Islam, NSU, chaired the ceremony. Prof. Gour Gobinda Goswami, Treasurer, Prof. Emdadul Haq, Director, Student Affairs along with other faculty members and administrative heads of NSU also took part in this celebration.
One Asia Foundation Chairman visits EU
Eastern University (EU) is the first university in Bangladesh to receive a grant from One Asia Foundation of Japan to conduct a course on Asian Community. The course titled "Asian Community: Economy and Culture" was offered for the first time in Spring semester, 2016 in the Faculty of Business Administration of EU.
The closing ceremony of the course was marked with the presence of Yoji Sato, Founder Chairman of One Asia Foundation as the chief guest April 13, 2016. Among others, Abul Khair Chowdhury, Chairman of the BOT, EU; Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab, VC of EU; Anwar Hossain Chowdhury, Member of BOT, EU; Prof. Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Pro-VC, EU; Muhammed Siddique Hossain, Treasurer, EU; Deans and Advisors of Faculties; Chairpersons of Departments and Registrar were present. The programme was attended by the participating students of the course, faculty members and other officials.
A total of 62 participants attended the course and received tuition scholarships from One Asia Foundation, Japan. Yoji Sato awarded twelve best students of the class a merit scholarship of 250 USD and distributed certificates to the participants for course completion.
IUB welcomes Bangla new year in festivity
Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) celebrated Pahela Baishakh, first day of the Bangla calendar 1423, on April 14, 2016 at IUB campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. The campus was adorned with different colours which gave the celebration a festive appearance. IUB students did wonderful paintings in front of IUB entrance gate. For celebration, Division of Student Affairs (DoSA) organised cultural programmes and a Baishakhi Fair. The VC Prof. M. Omar Rahman was the chief guest of the event. He delivered his welcome speech to the audience at the very beginning of the programme. A large number of crowds made the event successful. IUB students made the cultural programme flourish with their elegant performances of recitations, songs and dances.
AIUB hosts Baishakhi Ullash 1423
In celebration of Bangla New Year 1423, the American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) arranged a day-long cultural programme on April 14, 2016, at the Banani Club Field. The AIUB Baishakhi Ullash 1423 was inaugurated by Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, VC of AIUB. The Deans of the Faculties, teachers, students and high officials among others foreign dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
The programme was presented with band song, Baul and folk-fusion song. Stalls of various local traditional items and food were setup by the students. The Baishakhi Mela was open for all quarters of people. Highlight of the occasion was presentation by band LRB, Warfaze, Bappa & Friends, Parvez and the AIUB Performing Arts Club (APAC). The Treasurer and founder Vice President (HRD/Admin) Dr. Hasanul A. Hasan, and Directors from different departments, teachers, students, guardians, officers and local community enjoyed the event with joy.
ASAUB English Club launches annual magazine "Symphony"
The English Club of the Department of English, ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB) has launched the 3rd issue of its yearly magazine "Symphony" on April 12, 2016. The programme was followed by a discussion session on "Developing the Young Generation as Future Leaders for Today's Competitive Market". Prof. Dr. Dalem Ch. Barman, VC of ASA University Bangladesh was the chief guest while Abu Luthfe Fazle Rahim Khan, Managing Director, Agro Business, Islam Group, was the special guest at the programme. Prof. Dr. Abu Daud Hasan, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and Chairman, Department of English, presided over the programme. Md. Khalequzzaman, Registrar of ASAUB also spoke at the event. Diana Ansarey, Assistant Professor, Department of English and Coordinator, English Club, gave the welcome speech. Faculty members of the Department of English, ASAUB officials and students of different departments were present in the programme.
IQAC holds workshop at WUB
Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), World University of Bangladesh organised a workshop on "Building Quality in Higher Education & Self-Assessment" on April 16, 2016 at WUB main campus. The workshop was chaired by Prof. Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury, VC of the university, while Prof. Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed Head, QUA, HEQEP, UGC was present as the chief guest.
Prof. Dr. M Nurul Islam, Pro-VC and Morsheda Choudhury, Treasurer of WUB were also present as special guests. The welcome speech was given by Prof. A K M Ziaul Islam, Director, IQAC-WUB.
Prof. Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed along with Prof. Dr. M. Abul Kashem and Prof. Dr. Sanjoy K Adhikary, QA Specialists, QA Unit, UGC, spoke on quality and related issues in the technical session.
