ULAB organises Book Fair
University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised the 9th ULAB Book Fair at its campus on March 30, 2016. The slogan for this year was "I read, I travel, I become".
On the opening ceremony, a welcome speech was delivered by Prof. Imran Rahman, VC of ULAB. Akhter Matin Choudhury, Chairman and Managing Director, Nuvista Pharma Limited, was the chief guest. Farhan Quddus, Managing Director, Travel House Ltd. attended as the guest of honour.
The fair featured publications by renowned publishers like Prothoma, Bookworm, UPL, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Jadughar, Nazrul Institute, Bangla Academy, and ULAB Publication among others.
ULAB organises this Book Fair every year with an aim to develop a habit of reading books among students. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sumon Rahman, Coordinator, Library Affairs and Associate Professor, MSJ, ULAB.
IUBAT observes death anniversary of former Treasurer and BOG Member
The eighth death anniversary of Bir Protik Col. Shafique Ullah, former Treasurer and Member
of BOG of International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) was observed on March 31, 2016 at IUBAT University Auditorium.
Prof. M Alimullah Miyan, VC, IUBAT presided over the programme. Prof. Alex Barland, Member, International Advisory Council of IUBAT Nursing College, Simon Fraser University, Canada, Lt. Col. A.K.M Zahid Hossain (Retd.) and Treasurer Prof. Selina Nargis shared their memories of the late Col. Shafique Ullah, Bir Protik.
Lt. Col. Saif Ullah, Bangladesh Army, the only son of Col. Shafique Ullah, Lt. Col. A.K.M Zahid Hossain (Retd.), Prof. Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, Convener, Memorial Committee, held a discussion on the departed's life and contributions. Family, friends, colleagues, freedom fighters, students and admirers of Col. Shafique Ullah, Bir Protik joined the programme and prayed for the salvation of the departed soul.
Independence and National Day programmes at SEU
Southeast University (SEU) organised a discussion meeting at its Seminar Hall on March 30, 2016 aimed at celebrating the Independence and National Day 2016.
Freedom fighter and cultural personality Nasiruddin Yousuff was present as chief guest, while VC of SEU Prof. Anwar Hossain was on chair. Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury was present as the special guest. Dean, School of Arts and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Mohammed Ali Rashid delivered the welcome address.
Giving importance on nationalism in light with language, heritage and culture, speakers at the meeting urged the new generation to come forward to strengthen the spirit of nationalism and follow the ideals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The meeting was followed by a cultural programme.
EWUCRT arranges workshop on gender-climate interrelation and policies
East West University Centre for Research and Training (EWUCRT) in collaboration with UGC/World Bank funded sub-project "Knowledge Transfer and Capacity Development of Academic Staff' organised a workshop on "Mainstreaming Gender in International and National Climate Change Policy and Program" on March 28, 2016 at EWU Campus. This workshop focused on an in-depth analysis of gender-climate interrelation that can better inform climate policy in Bangladesh.
Christine Hunter, Country Representative, UN Women Bangladesh was the chief guest while Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson, BOT, EWU and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank was the special guest and Prof. Dr. M. M. Shahidul Hassan, VC, EWU, was the guest of honour. Dr. Rafiqul Huda Chaudhury, Chairperson, EWUCRT, chaired the programme. The keynote speakers were Farah Kabir, Director, ActionAid Bangladesh and Dilruba Haider, Coordinator, Gender and Climate Change, UN Women.
BISC launches Annual Inter-School English Debate Tournament
Bangladesh International School & College recently launched its debut inter-school English debate tournament titled "BISCDC Regionals 2016". Teams competed in 2 categories, Novice and Open.
Hosted by Bangladesh International School and College Debate Club (BISCDC) with aid and support from the Bangladesh Debating Council (BDC), the tournament was organised by Rafee Ahmed Ashraf, Nabil Rahman and Nuzhat Shama – all current A Level students at BISC and Tanvir Rahman, alumnus from NSU, with the help of an army of volunteers ranging from Class VIII to Class XII along with other alumni.
The Adjudication Core were some of the biggest names in the circuit consisting of Syed Musqit Razee (IUT), Fardeen Ameen (IUB, Vice-Chair BDC), Sadaf Halim (IUB), Sheikh Rifayet Daiyan Srijon (Academia), Nabil Hasan (BRAC), Wasifa Noshin (IBA-DU) and Mabroor Wassey (BAT).
Farhan Tajwar, Gungoon Matheera and Inqiyad Patwary from Mastermind took home the Novice Championship Trophy. The Open Championship was won by Academia (ADC-1) consisting Wasif Amin Khan, Ayat Rahman and Shadman Karim from Academia.
Maisha Tasneem from VNS was awarded the Best Speaker in the Novice category and Sajid Khandaker from Dhanmondi Tutorial was awarded the Best Speaker in the Open Category.
AIUB T20 Cricket Tournament 2016 begins
American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) is organising the AIUB Premier League (APL) T20 Cricket Tournament 2016 from March 24 to April 10, 2016 at the Gulshan Youth Club Ground. Pro-VC of AIUB, Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva inaugurated the tournament where Director (PR) Md. Lutfar Rahman, Director (BBA Program) and Coordinator (Office of Sports) A. K. Nazmul were also present.
A total of 12 teams from different departments are taking part in the tournament. The final match of the tournament will be held on April 10, 2016 which will be followed by a prize distribution ceremony. The media partners of this tournament are Radio Amar 88.4 FM and The Daily Observer.
Vice Chancellor's Honour Certificate at EU
Eastern University's (EU) VC Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab distributed the certificates to the recipients of the Vice Chancellor's Honour on March 30, 2016.
This honour is given to the students in recognition of their earning CGPA of 3.8 & above and 3.7 & above for Arts faculty. In his closing speech, Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab, VC of EU congratulated all recipients of the award and said that it was a privilege for EU to recognise their talents.
Prof. Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Pro-VC, Deans, Controller of Exam, Chairpersons also delivered speeches. Among others, faculty members, officers, staff and students were present at the programme.
Discussion on cyber security at NSU
The School of Engineering and Physical Sciences (SEPS), North South University (NSU) organised a roundtable discussion on "State of Cyber Security in the Public and Private Enterprises of Bangladesh and Role of Academia, Industry and Government" on April 3, 2016 at the Syndicate Hall of NSU.
M. A. Kashem, Chairman, BOT, NSU delivered speech as the chief guest. Prof. Atiqul Islam, VC was present as the special guest. Dr. M Abdul Awal, Professor, ECE department presided over the session. Dr. Hafiz Abdur Rahman, Associate Professor of the department conducted the roundtable discussion. Among others, Prof. Md. Sirajul Islam, Dean, SEPS was also present.
The objective of the roundtable was to identify the challenges and critical vulnerabilities of our national IT infrastructures, and to anticipate the role of academic institutions for possible training, research and collaboration.
Panel discussants included Commodore M N Absar, NGB, ndc, psc, Director, NSI, Md. Mazharul Islam, DIG, SB, Md. Nurus Samad, System Analyst, CID, Lt. Col. Masud Parvez Chowdhury, PSC, GSO-1, DGFI, and experts from Bangladesh Bank, BTCL, Islami Bank, BUET, DU, UIU, e-Generation, Veriflow etc.
