VELC 1st National Language Fiesta 2015

Viqarunnisa English Language Club helps the students learn English in a joyful environment. In continuation of this tradition, Viquarunnisa Noon School and College played host to VELC 1st National Language Fiesta. After previous annual competitions, this year's event was arranged on a national scale. The festival carried the motto "Language is the blood of the soul into which thoughts run and out of which they grow."
The festival was inaugurated on May 21. George Mesthos, the Cultural Affairs Officer of the Amreican Center was the chief guest of the opening ceremony. Twenty-three colleges and 35 schools took part in the competition. The event even attracted schools from outside Dhaka like Narayanganj Ideal School and College, Savar Cantonment School and College, and Bharateswari Homes School etc. Students from St. Joseph Higher Secondary School and College, Dhaka Residential Model College, Holy Cross College, YWCA Higher Secondary Girls School, Notre Dame College, Adamjee Cantonment College etc. participated in various events and won many prizes. The competition was held in three different levels: Junior 1 (class 6 to 8), Junior 2 (class 9 and 10) and Senior (college). There were 19 events in total, such as Extempore Speech, Recitation, Intensive Reading, Quiz and Olympiad, Spell Bee, Wall Magazine, Turn the Coat, Listening Test etc.
Viqarunnisa Noon School and college won the champion's trophy for winning the maximum number of prizes in various events. The closing ceremony was held on May 30. Dr. Sadrul Amin, former Dean of the Faculty of Arts, University of Dhaka was the chief guest at the event. The Daily Star and Somoy TV were media partners. Other partners were Matador, Fresh, Pepsi, Banglalion, Bombay Sweets, Off Track, Dan Cake and Bellissimo.
ULAB organises study tour at BCSIR
The Department of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering organised a study tour for the ETE students at Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) on July 2, 2015. Forty students along with all the faculty members of ETE department were part of this educational tour.
The tour was organised at the Institute of Fuel Research and Development (IFRD) of BCSIR and mainly focused on photovoltaic section of IFRD. Students visited PV panel, sun simulator, inverter and electronic circuit analyser sections during the tour. They learned about the equipments and their functionalities explained by the experts present there.
The tour ended with Prof. Dr. Rezaul Karim Mazumder thanking the IFRD, BCSIR scientists and officials for their support.
Students of DIU leave for Asia Summer Program 2015
Seventeen students of Daffodil International University (DIU) left for Japan on July 5 to attend Asia Summer Program - 2015 (ASP) at Josai International University (JIU). The programme starts on July 7 and will continue up to July 28, 2015 at the three different campuses of JIU: Togane, Awa and Sakado. The ASP is fully initiated and supported by Asian University Presidents Forum (AUPF). Students and teachers from all around Asia from 13 universities of 10 countries including Bangladesh are attending this summer programme. Prof. Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, VC; Prof. Dr. Engr. AKM Fazlul Haque, Registrar and Prof. Dr. Md. Fokhray Hossain, Director (International Affairs) of DIU congratulated the students before departing for ASP - 2015.
"Recruitment Talk: Dundee Business School, UK" at Eastern University
An information session titled "Recruitment Talk: Dundee Business School, Abertay University, Scotland, UK" was organised by Eastern University (EU) Career Services and International Office (CSIO) on June 29, 2015 at EU Seminar Hall. Dr. Nazrul Islam, Senior Lecturer, Innovation Management, Dundee Business School, University of Abertay Dundee, UK conducted the session.
Prof. Dr. Nazrul Islam, Chairperson, General Education (GED) Cell; Prof. Dr. Md. Ashraf Hossain, Chairperson, Faculty of Business Administration; Abu Hena Md. Rasel, Head of Career Services and International Office, EU, other officials and a large number of students attended the event.
NSU receives best private university and best PR personality awards
Bishwabiddyaloy Porikroma, a university news media, arranged a discussion session and award giving ceremony on its 24th founding ceremony at Hotel Sonargaon, Dhaka on June 28, 2015. Housing and Public Works Minister Engr. Mosarrof Hossain as the chief guest and Dr. Abdus Sobhan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister; Sunil Kanti Bose, Chairman, BTRC; Jainal Abedin Bhuiyan, Chairman, RAJUK as the special guests delivered speeches on the topic and handed over awards to best institutions and individuals for sincere contributions to their respective fields.
North South University was awarded as the best private university in the country and Prof. Amin Sarkar, VC received the award from the chief guest; Belal Ahmed, Deputy Director, PR of the same university was awarded as best PR personality of the year 2014-15. Among others, special award was given to Magistrate Rokon-Ud-Doula for his outstanding contribution to the drive against food adulteration.
