There is no democracy: Fakhrul
Pulling reference to the prime minister’s speech at the parliament yesterday, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said there is no democracy in Bangladesh.
“The prime minister’s remarks are nothing but untrue,” he told reporters at a press conference held at the party’s Nayapaltan central office this afternoon.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday upheld the election of Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Saber Hossain Chowdhury in international forums as proof of the global community’s acceptance of January 5, 2014 polls that saw Awami League return to power.
“Reports of different international and foreign countries including Amnesty International and European Union prove that there is no democracy in the country,” Fakhrul said.
In the briefing Fakhrul alleged that law enforcing agencies are creating obstacles at different parts of the country to hold BNP’s meeting.
“There is no democracy left in the country. Prime minister’s claim of democracy in the country is nothing but fraudulence with the country’s people,” Fakhrul said.
