PM’s remarks on Jan 5 polls untrue: Mosharraf
The general election of January 5, 2014 was a one-sided election, BNP Standing Committee Member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said today.
He was referring to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s comments over the election yesterday where she said the people voted her government to power.
"No one gave vote in 153 seats while only 5-10 per cent people cast votes in the remaining 147 seats in the election. So, how did people elect you?" Mosharraf said while addressing a programme at the National Press Club.
Accusing the government of pushing the country towards a "dark tunnel", Mosharraf said Awami League has destroyed the country's executive and judiciary by forming parliament with unelected lawmakers.
The government has created political crisis in the country by scrapping the caretaker government provision, he said.
"No drama in the name of election like the previous one will be accepted anymore. No one will be allowed to betray the people again," he said.
He also called upon his party men to be prepared to wage a movement for a neutral and nonpolitical government to oversee the next election.
