No bar for Gazipur mayor Mannan to resume office

The Supreme Court today cleared the way for Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) Mayor MA Mannan to get back the responsibility of his office.

The apex court upheld a High Court order that stayed the government decision to suspend Mannan from his post.

A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order through dismissing an appeal filed by the government seeking a stay on the High Court order.

The LGRD ministry suspended Mannan on April 18 last year as a court accepted charge-sheet against him in a criminal case.

Following a writ petition, the High Court on April 13 this year stayed the suspension of Mannan.
