Curb price hike ahead of Ramadan, BNP asks govt

Star Online Report

BNP today expressed grave concern over the unrelenting upward price spiral of the daily essentials and urged the government to step up measures for keeping prices of the daily necessities under control ahead of the month of Ramadan.

“Awami League’s syndication and the government inaction are responsible for the price hike,” BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed said at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka this noon.

The government should take immediate measure to keep the prices of the essentials under control during the month of Ramadan, he said

Price of the daily essential went beyond the purchasing capacity of the commoners two weeks before the Ramadan and the price has already doubled within a week ahead of the Ramadan, he added.

'Women violation is outcome of lawlessness'

Rizvi also came down on the government heavily for the increasing trend of women violation and said the culture of lawlessness is leading the country’s youth to commit such heinous offences.

Citing several instances of women violation including the Banani rape, Rizvi said the countrymen are passing their days through worries and uncertainties.

“Such social offences have taken a dangerous shape and some people are engaged in women violation spree as there is no democracy and rule of law in the country,” he added.
