AL leaders 'siphoning off money': BNP
BNP Senior Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed today blamed leaders of the ruling Awami League for “siphoning off money and purchasing lands and apartments” in different countries across the world after names of their wives.
“Awami League leaders have turned a place in Canada into Begumpara by purchasing lands and apartments after names of their wives,” Rizvi said while addressing the party’s representative meeting at Khulna city.
Rizvi also blasted the ruling party leaders and activists for “making money through illegal means” in the name of development.
“We have information that they (AL men) are making money by looting banks and committing corruption,” he said.
BNP is getting preparation to wage a tough movement so that the government is forced to hold the next general election under an impartial administration, Rizvi said without telling details about nature and timeframe of the movement.
About Rampal power plant, he said the government is rigid on its stance to build a thermal power plant near the world’s largest mangrove forest Sundarbans “only to satisfy India”.
“We will not be able to protect Sundarbans if the coal based power plant is set up at Rampal,” he also said.
