1 more succumbs to mindless arson
One more innocent commoner succumbed today to the gruesome firebomb attack, raising the death toll arising from political violence to 76 this year.
The deceased, Mohammad Jahangir Alam, 35, from Bogra, died around 6:30am in the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Mozammel Haque, inspector of the police camp concerned with the hospital told the Daily Star.
Hailing from Nischintapur village of Kahalu Upazila, trucker Jahangir Alam and helper Masud Rana fell prey to arson attack at Char Matha intersection in Bogra town on February 23 during the agitation of BNP-led 20-party alliance.
They were first admitted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital and later rushed to DMCH on February 24 as their condition deteriorated.
Including today's victim, at least 76 people have died countrywide since the start of this year with a political stalemate arising renew. Over half the victims were innocent commoners.
