The Election Commission (EC) decided on Wednesday to exclude convicts sentenced by the International Crimes tribunal (ICT) as well as those convicted under Bangladesh Collaborators Order, 1972 from the national voter list ahead of the 10th  general election. “The national identity registration act 2009 would be amended to facilitate these changes,” Election Commissioner Shah Nawaz told reporters after a meeting of the commission at the EC secretariat. The two tribunals dealing with war crimes cases have so far delivered verdicts in six cases. The Tribunal-1 awarded 90-year jail to former Jamaat-e-Islami chief Ghulam Azam for his war time offences, while Jamaat leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee was awarded capital punishment. The Tribunal-2 awarded Jamaat Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed, Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Muhammad Kamaruzzaman and expelled Jamaat leader Abul Kalam Azad death sentence and another Assistant Secretary General Abdul Quader Mollah life sentence. The Election Commission, on the other hand, received a list of 47 collaborators from the home ministry on June 22, all of whom were convicted under the Bangladesh Collaborators (Special Tribunals) Order, 1972.
