The two major political parties -- the ruling Awami League and the opposition BNP -- will  hold programmes in all unions across the country today to demonstrate their strength at the grassroots level.

"If you [people] notice, it seems that they [Awami League] seem to have become the opposition party. It seems that the Awami League is not in the government, but has turned into an opposition party. They [AL] are announcing counter programmes whenever BNP announces a programme," said Amir Khosru.

"We are clearly marching towards the elections. Our party is preparing for the election," he said.

A petition has been filed with the Supreme Court seeking a stay on a High Court order that cleared the way for GM Quader to perform duties as Jatiya Party chairman.

Following a court order, the Election Commission is set to grant registration to a new political party -- Trinamool BNP.Election Commissioner Md Alamgir yesterday said the Appellate Division recently ordered to provide registration to the party.

“It [unelected government] will never happen. And those who want to go to power should come forward,” she said

"If we fail to combat this challenge, it could boomerang against us," he said

As per the new law, no one can set up any haat and bazaar without permission from the government.

Ziaul Haque Mridha, a former JP lawmaker, submitted the petition through his lawyer Helal Uddin yesterday asking the apex court to prohibit GM Quader from performing party activities.
