NCP to field candidates in every union: Sarjis

NCP Chief Organiser (North) Sarjis Alam yesterday announced that the party plans to field candidates in every union across the country in the upcoming local government elections.

Speaking to journalists after a coordination meeting of the NCP district committee in Lakshmipur, Sarjis said the party was touring districts to strengthen its organisation at union and ward levels and form committees nationwide.

“Initially, we will endorse one candidate per union. Through this process, NCP’s growth as a major political party and its preparation for the next national election will be completed,” he added.

Criticising the BNP, Sarjis said a ruling-party-dominated parliament was unhealthy for democracy and urged the party to accept opposition voices.

He also blamed the government for rising commodity prices, gas shortages, power outages, and layoffs, claiming these issues were burdening middle-class families.

On the 11-party alliance’s long march, he said NCP was highlighting public demands through divisional programmes.
