Next polls as in other democracies
PM tells British team
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said her government would follow the practice of other democratic countries in holding the next general election.
She made the comment at a meeting with a British Parliamentary delegation at her Sangsad Bhaban office.
Anne Main MP, chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Bangladesh, led the delegation.
Bijan Lal Dev, deputy press secretary of the premier, briefed reporters after the meeting.
He said they had discussed the upcoming polls in Bangladesh and measures to develop the country's garment industry and promote trade in this sector.
Hasina told the delegation that her government wanted to ensure a continuation of democracy in the country.
Talking about the garment industry, she said her government was sincerely working in cooperation with all stakeholders for the overall development of the sector.
The premier mentioned that her government puts emphasis on strictly maintaining the country's building code in constructing any structure.
The government had formed committees to make sure that the building code was being followed properly, she said.
The PM's adviser HT Imam, Ambassador at-Large M Ziauddin and the British high commissioner in Dhaka, among others, were present at the meeting.
