Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman today described the upcoming national parliamentary election a turning point for Bangladesh.

“This election will be a turning point. It stands on the sacrifices of 1,400 martyrs. It marks the end of the dark era of the 'Aynaghar'. It is an election to end the cries of the families of martyrs. It is an election to bury the rotten politics of the past,” he said.

The Jamaat chief made the remarks this afternoon while addressing a rally organised by the district Jamaat at the Shinghajani Bohumukhi High School field in Jamalpur.

Speaking about employment, he said that if Jamaat comes to power, arrangements will be made to ensure jobs for the youth. The youth do not want allowances; they want work, he added.

“We will not insult the youth by giving unemployment allowances; instead, we will place work in their hands,” he said.

He further said that if ‘yes’ is defeated in the referendum, Bangladesh will be defeated. “‘Yes’ means freedom, ‘no’ means slavery. Some parties cannot openly speak in favour of the ‘yes’ vote. They speak cautiously and secretly. If you want to vote ‘no’, say it openly.”

Recalling the sacrifices of the martyrs of 2024, the Jamaat ameer also said, “The martyrs have left their bodies on our shoulders and their blood in our hands. We cannot betray their bodies and blood.”

He also said Jamaat does not want power for itself; it wants power for the people. Jamaat’s victory lies in the victory of the 18 crore people. Power is not a matter of desire; it is a burden of responsibility, he said. If Jamaat candidates are elected, they will be bound to present their asset statements before the people every year, the ameer said.

Addressing women, he said, “Security and dignity in home, workplace and movement will be ensured. They will be partners in all work based on justice. Everyone will be given their due rights.”

About minorities, the Jamaat ameer said, “Bangladesh is a garden. We will decorate this garden called Bangladesh with flowers of all kinds. There will be no discrimination based on religion. Only patriotism and commitment to the country will be considered.”

Referring to river erosion and natural disasters in Jamalpur district, he said, “Natural disasters are a test from Allah, but neglecting them is a heinous crime. The primary responsibility lies with the government.

The rally was presided over by district Jamaat Ameer and its Jamalpur-5 (Sadar) candidate Maulana Abdus Sattar.
